What is the advantage of purchasing your own when cable companies already provide them?
The cable in my uncle's neighborhood was behind the times so it was only able to limit speeds on a single channel basis and since this uses four, he was supposedly able to get 50 MB downloads when he was only supposed to be getting around 15.

I also personally like being in charge of my own equipment and its modifications...

Pretty good deal, but where I live I only need a docsis 2.0 modem.

I did that Amazon price match last week in-store at Staples with the $10 app coupon and 25% off after Rewards. Still not as slick as old way but still got me this modem for about $60.

This modem runs hot. I didn't order the Comcast 100 mbps speed though Frown Can't wait to test the 160 mbps max someday.
Weren't there posts of this used to being $55 bucks after 25 off 75 from staples? What happened to those?

somehow i doubt that, but if you're right good for you.
I negotiated for free equip. rental back when I started my internet service with Charter. But the freebee they gave was only docsis 2.0 so I gave this one a try and noticed a big difference.

You still might see an improvement. I only need a docsis 2.0 as well, but when my last one went out, I went ahead and upgraded to this even though it was more than I needed. My plan is only rated at 20 mbps, but yet my average speed is around 40 mbps, and I've hit all the way up to 60 mbps with this.

And what is the base price of their service? I can't find it. I got as far as the checkout screen without any mention of the price after the 40/month introductory price (12 months). Of course the * by that price leads you to a disclaimer page with the extremely helpful information of "Standard rates apply after 1 year."

I assume their internet prices make up for that "free" modem and the customer gets screwed out of the option of saving by using their own modem.

That's dead wrong, free modem... very first bullet point. They changed up all the services a few months back and it has been free since, old news.

Also this modem only supports 4 bonded channels.... for a little more you can future proof yourself by investing in a modem that supports 8 bonded channels. Not a good investment at this price.

do you think amazon will PM this? I really want to buy it on Amazon before they start charging tax this saturday

I just recently upgraded to Comcast Triple play (tv, internet, phone) and I'm paying $7.95 monthly rental fee for the modem. Is there a better option? Cheaper option? Please let me know. Want to buy this tomorrow either on Amazon or some other site if the price is right.

THANKS !

You also avoid installation fees.
Comcast still managed to charge me an installation fee, even though I'm moving into an apartment that already had Comcast internet installed, and I'm using my own cable modem Confused

This modem is not for you, the triple play package requires their modem because of the added phone service. If you just had internet and tv or just internet then this would work.

Actually the price went down, the 30mb service used to cost $65 + rental fee.
They only have 30mb/100mb service now.... the normal price of 30mb is $49/month I believe after the 12 month period.

According to dslreports forums, they no longer provision customer owned modems if you're a new customer and have to use one of theirs. I haven't confirmed this myself but there's a big discussion about it over there. There's also a big upset about the new tier structure vs the old ones. Also some rumors about a 300mbps package......
