This modem is not for you, the triple play package requires their modem because of the added phone service. If you just had internet and tv or just internet then this would work.

O wow, you are totally right. I just went over the specs and realized that it doesn't support the phone service too. bummer............

thanks though.

Do you know any that supports all 3 though?

Unfortunately I do not, I have triple play right now and was looking to downgrade to a double play package is how I found out.

Do you think DOCSIS 3.0 will get cheaper than this in the next 3 months? I can hold out until the end of the year...

You still might see an improvement. I only need a docsis 2.0 as well, but when my last one went out, I went ahead and upgraded to this even though it was more than I needed. My plan is only rated at 20 mbps, but yet my average speed is around 40 mbps, and I've hit all the way up to 60 mbps with this.
What service are you on? They apparently do not know how to rate limit your bandwidth! More power to you!

I would say yes, 3 months is quite a while in the tech world. My guess is in 3 months you'll be able to get this (4 bonded channels) modem for a little cheaper, or probably a better (8 bonded channels) for about the same price or only a little more.

I just recently upgraded to Comcast Triple play (tv, internet, phone) and I'm paying $7.95 monthly rental fee for the modem. Is there a better option? Cheaper option? Please let me know. Want to buy this tomorrow either on Amazon or some other site if the price is right.

This modem is for HSI only and will not support digital voice service. It will not replace what you rent today unfortunately and I know that from experience. You need a 'telephony modem' that handles both type services. http://forums.comcast.com/t5/Voice-Service-and-Equipment/voice-adaptor-for-motorola-SB6121/td-p/1131207 [comcast.com]

For Comcast the approved list for cable and telephony modems is here http://mydeviceinfo.comcast.net/. There are telephony models by Motorola and Zoom not on the list and I would check with a technician before investing outside the approved list.

Actually the price went down, the 30mb service used to cost $65 + rental fee.
They only have 30mb/100mb service now.... the normal price of 30mb is $49/month I believe after the 12 month period.

According to dslreports forums, they no longer provision customer owned modems if you're a new customer and have to use one of theirs. I haven't confirmed this myself but there's a big discussion about it over there. There's also a big upset about the new tier structure vs the old ones. Also some rumors about a 300mbps package......
I am currently at 19.99/mo on Charter under old structure. Think it is good time to lock in?

This. Charter also charges $7. So anyone planning to have service through these two providers for longer than 10 months would obviously be coming out ahead with the purchase.
Charter is now providing modems for free for new customers.

I looked to sell my old cable model on ebay. They go for around $10. At that price I am not going to bother. I am getting 30 mbs. If you need a super fast speed I doubt the ebay cable modems can keep up.

But if you are on the cheap plans, like the economy plan I am on with comcast, then you might be better off getting a used one on ebay.

I guess my old modem is a DOCSIS 2.0.

If you buy of ebay you might want to call the cable company tech support to make sure they can use your modem. They always ask for my make and model #.

For these kind of items, search your local craigslist listings. I got one of these for about 30 bucks. Works really well. I have Charter.
