If you're like me who has an extensive media collection, most of which are over 4GB. This will have to be reformatted as NTFS which does not come standard with any Mac products, so you have to download NTFS-3G to reformat it.
Ya, I was hoping for TB, but EXPECTING USB 3. That's just weird not to have at least USB3. Paying for pretty on this one. FW800 is fast, but dead tech I think vs TB(for full control like FW), USB3, eSATA/SAS, etc.
I would guess that it does not have USB 3.0 or TB because they are not needed on a two drive RAID1 or RAID0 external.
eSATA would allow you to hit ~280MBp/s read/write which is going to be just in-line with what those two drives will be able to occasionally hit in a best case scenario in RAID0. That 280MBp/s would be significantly more than RAID1 will be needing.
Why pay for the extra ports when they are simply not necessary? If the freeway has a posted speed limit of 200Mp/h, but my car only goes 100Mp/h then how does that benefit me?
You have USB 2.0 for people that don't care about transfer speeds at all, FW800 for dumb Mac users that don't realize that is so 2006, and eSATA for the smarter Mac users and Windows.
Seems fine to me and a good price considering 2x3TB drives come out to about that already.
