You can use Amazon Payments to pay people with a credit card up to $1000 per month for free. Care has to be taken as they will cancel your account if you abuse it. I was sending my wife $1000 and she was sending me $1000 each month until I heard about people's accounts getting closed. Now, I just send her $985 a month. This is ~$3000 of your $5000 spend in three months. If you don't care about your account getting closed, risk using (2) people starting in the second month. Worst case is you will still get $3000 of your spend and have a canceled Amazon Payments account. Best case is you get by doing it (2) months and meet all of your spend requirement.

If you have money to loan yourself (front the money now and recover sometime after the signup bonus promotion period has ended):

• Prepay utilities (gas, electric, phone, cell phone, cable, satellite)
• Buy items from Newegg (or other store that is tax free) that are FAR. You can resell them to make some money which can consider interest on your loan to yourself.
• Buy gift cards to places you frequent to use after your minimum spend has ended.

the t&c state that to qualify you can't have had the card in the last 12 months not sure if amex would let you have the difference between your bonus and the current bonus?

I cancelled my last Delta Gold Skymiles card in late February and they accepted me for this card. (Sure hope the miles bonus is honored). When I cancelled my last card, they changed my card over to the blue card, so the account and card numbers stayed the same.
