I have never had good luck negotiating with Costco but they will match competitor prices. Having your tires rotated and balanced while you shop is what seals the deal for me. Unfortunately 2 of my cars use high performance tires and I like to have them balanced with road force machines... Costco doesnt use them.

Trusting "any tire shop" is perhaps folly. Years ago I owned a Triumph Spitfire and had new tires installed at my (then) local tire shop. (It was NOT Sears.) Not long thereafter I was on a trip and driving down a mountain pass when the car simply stopped running. I pulled over and checked the engine bay to find that a wire had become disconnected from the distributor. As I was getting back into the car, I heard a "hissing" noise and saw the rear driver's side tire going flat. I put the spare on and drove to a tire shop. The tech informed me that all tires had been ruined during installation. The Triumph rim dictated that tires be mounted from only one side (don't remember if inner or outer) since diameter was different. The beads on all four tires had been compromised. I got four new tires--luckily at no cost since I was at the same franchise which sold the originals to me. I still have visions of going off the side of a mountain after a blowout.

Interesting story, thanks for sharing. Most people don't have tires with different diameter beads, myself included. I still trust any ape (who installs tires for a living) to install standard tires for my standard car. Of course, I do a visual inspection of any work that anyone completes.

I also add air pressure to increase fuel economy and handling, at the expense of a harsher ride and increased road noise.

Apparently you don't shop at Sam's Club. They carry Michelin, Goodyear and BFGoodrich tires. Don't seem like no name tires to me. You can also check their prices on their website.

Odd, a tire seller recommending that you buy tires? Take a peek at the tread yourself and see if there is enough meat left for your comfort level. The common method of measuring tread depth is the penny method. Google it. Also, tires have "wear bars" that indicate when replacement is recommended. When the tread wears down to the depth of the wear bar, you might consider replacing them.

I run tires down to the cords to save money and benefit from the increased mpg and dry performance afforded by the worn tires. Some people even shave brand new tires down just for the performance increase. Of course, I drive in a way that considers the road conditions and the state of my tires. Bald tires are prone to hydroplaning, which requires more attention when driving in the rain.

You and I have the same tire size 245/75r16 ... but you must've gotten P-Metric tires for that price. I couldn't do any better than $600 for LT unless I screwed part of the deal up.

Still, the tires I ended up with were $800+ otd price @ Costco/Sam's.

I purchased 4 Goodyear Assurance Comfortred for the wife's car on 9/1 when the deal was just $40 off + $160 rebate. Called and got the price adj. ($153). THANK YOU OP! IMO this is a way better deal than the Discount Tire FP deal from 2 weeks back.

Any thoughts on where to get these bad boys mounted, balanced, etc....? Not sure if I trust Sears to install them on my new 2012 Corolla. Their site doesn't even mention TPMS, which scares me a bit. Cheers!

Just had mine done. They'll charge a bit extra for the tpms when you get there. Mine was $5.99 parts $3 labor per tire.

so my total for 4 tires was 325 with tax..I used my Sears card and tires qualify for the $160

does this mean my total after the rebate is $165? thats nuts for 4 quality tires...

Can any one tell me what is the installation option to choose? for the balance and valve stem. thanks

currently, I choose 90 Day Tire Balance and Rubber Valve Stem. but not sure if I should pay more for better option or pay less for worse option. Is sears' Performance Balance (Life of the Tire Balance Mounting Included) good/useful?
