Fantastic value. I have two E350 mini ITX setups running OpenELEC (http://openelec.tv/), an appliance-like XBMC distro, and they don't break a sweat playing Blu-ray rips over the network.

I believe Frys has a pretty regular deal on an MSI E350 board around this price, but that's after MIR, so this is about the best deal I can remember on one of these boards.

If folks are interested, I'm happy to recommend additional components to finish out a box.

so you've really had no trouble playing like 10gb .mkv files over a network? it can handle anything in 1080p? wanted to buy one to build a HTPC for my dad for his 50th using it but really don't want it to have trouble playing any kinds of formats heh. is it just safer going a dual core SB celeron? you still need a gpu with this?

What did you use for a case?

Does openelc have silicon dust hr support?

While I don't own this specific combo, I do have an HP DM1Z with this same APU.

To answer people's questions on the power of this, YES, it is powerful enough to stream 1080p content (even over Wifi, I'm using my laptop as a HTPC currently)

I run XBMC and have had no performance issues with it, and this is running Windows 7, not the stripped down OpenELEC.

I can't comment on choosing a case or the silicon dust support, but I wouldn't think twice on buying this for a dedicated HTPC used to play files or stream internet content (Hulu, Crackle, etc.)

Any good case recommendations?
Haven't really looked at mini ITX cases before, and it looks like a good case will cost as much as the MB/CPU combo laugh out loud
Some very nice Silverstone cases but $$...

$53 - APEX MI-008 Black Steel Mini-ITX Tower Computer Case 250W Power Supply [newegg.com]
$60 - IN WIN BP655.200BL Black Steel Mini-ITX Desktop Computer Case 200W Power Supply [newegg.com]

I was looking at the MI-008. Looks good but a there a lot of concerns about the powersupply being so close to the HSF. Cant really tell if it will get in the way with this particular mobo.

Looking for the smallest case possible. Won't be needing dvd or hard drive on this. Do they exist. If so where can I buy one?

I have the APEX with an MSI E350 board and it works great. Running XBMC on Win 7. Plays everything just fine but I am connected via gbit ethernet and not wifi.

Also MI-008 is $46 on amazon.

This one is quite compact and reasonably priced:

I have one of my E350s in the black version and it's very solid.

Then you just need to add some ram (I prefer low profile as things get rather tight) like:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...6820147094

and a small flash drive for OpenELEC and you're good to go.

I wish Netflix & Silverlight was better optimized. This processor struggles HD Netflix streams even though it can handle Blu-Ray just fine.

I'd be worried it would choke on 10-bit encodes. Anyone tried this on one of these?
