Best deal on a 1-day car rental?
I have been searching around and I thought I remember there being a thread with a HUGE list of car rental deals (particularly AVIS), but I can only find smaller deals.I will be taking a trip to Chicago soon and need a car for the day. Can someone help me find the best deal? |

Just drive from St. Louis only a 4~5 hour drive, I will be doing the Chicago to Saint Louis drive tomorrow

I'm late w/ this, but the thread came up in my search for AVIS rental codes. I thought I'd contribute. I too need a one-day rental to grab the car from Chicago, IL O'Hare and to leave the car in a different city (Rockford, IL).
Normally I go with National Rental Car but seems they are out of cars tomorrow for a one day rental from O'Hare ( http://twitpic.com/baxk63/full ). Second choice is usually Enterprise and they are out. I went to the AVIS site without any login info and was looking at $89-$92 BEFORE fees for Subcompact Hyundai Accent or similar to Full Size Chevrolet Impala or similar. w/ the K817165 AWD code mentioned in this thread, I was looking at $78-$87 BEFORE fees. I found another AWD code X133557 from this other thread and that got me the $73 - $79 range. Somehow or another - maybe in the process of the Free Preferred Membership Account creation - another AWD code showed up which was X505639. That too was giving me the $73-$79 range for the subcompact to Full Size. So I just went with that. What killed me though was the fees which were $38.34 on top of the $73: Surcharges: 20.24 USD - $8.00 per day (Customer Facility Charge) - $2.75 per rental (City Tax) - $1.25 per day (Vehicle License Fee) - 11.1% applies only to certain corporate accounts (Concession Recovery Fee) Tax ( 20.000% ) 18.10 USD Mileage:Unlimited Base Rate and Charges $111.34 USD i mentioned Enterprise earlier. I recall renting from Enterprise back over labor day weekend w/ a same day call and it cost me something between $40ish and $60ish for a diff city drop off (pick up in Rockford Airport, return in Milwaukee Airport). Maybe it's just because the airport wasn't O'Hare. When I land tomorrow in O'Hare, will try my luck to call Enterprise and see if anything can be done. Hopefully I can back out of my AVIS rental if something can happen. I know this won't help you anymore OP but hopefully it'll help someone else.
