Just wanted to let anyone that might be interested - the problems about reinstalling Windows on the Dell Inspiron 15r have likely been corrected - I had absolutely no problems partitioning the drive and reinstalling Windows as well as re-enabling Smart Response technology from Intel after the install. Did not have to do anything special. Thanks for the deal and all the help, everyone. |

Just got my Inspiron 15R Special Edition this afternoon. Unfortunately, it is defective. I only get 4 beeps when powering it up. No screen output at all. Power button and keyboard keys light up. That's it. I am returning this to DELL. I just wasted 1 week of waiting. First time buyer for refurbished item here. I just hope this is the first and last unit to be defective. To others, please check / test your unit intensively.
Anyone with experience on returning defective items to DELL? Who pays for the shipping fee? This process is new to me. This is my first time to return an item I purchased online. TIA! Last edited by HackrDaD; 09-24-2012 at 04:40 PM.. |

After bragging up Dell in this thread and a purchaser on 3 other occasions of Dell outlet refurbs I was pretty unhappy this time around. Ordered a 17R and a 15R. Total price was *~$860 with tax.
A few days went buy and suddenly I get an email saying my items had shipped and I looked at the invoice showing a total of ~$1740. I immediately called and asked why I had this charge. As I am calling I am signing in to my Dell Outlet account and I see the first order had been canceled and a second one was placed for laptops of the same spec. As I am talking to the guy he says that I was not billed for the first set and even though the invoice shows such the first order will never actually hit the credit card. (He was right, it did not. Only showed as pending and then dropped off) I hung up and then got to thinking "what was the price of these because if I divided that total invoice cost it came to more than double what my original order was. Well come to find out they shipped the laptops and I was charged $14 more than my original order. Now while I don't have a problem paying $14 more, I am fairly certain that has to be illegal. I did not call to cancel, I was never sent an email saying anything was canceled and my higher priced order was shipped and billed to my credit card. When they arrived the 17R was dead. 8 beeps and no screen (LCD hardware error they said) I was told that I would have to set up a time for a tech to come repair it. I was furious at this point. I should not have to have a DOA laptop repaired on my time. I should have a replacement shipped out. With all that I had been talking to a supervisor (customer care rep) since they call to ask how things are when you make an order. (At least they have the past few times for me) They refunded the $14, refunded $25 more for the "mistake" and then the guy immediately shipped me a "new" 17R so I didn't have to set up an appointment to get the one fixed. Overall it wasn't a very great experience and if I was a first time buyer I would think they are shady as all hell, specifically for charging me more for an order I did not approve. The customer service was excellent though. They always called to check on things, very apologetic, and tried to make things right by offering credits. I am still a bit concerned over how they were able to charge me more for that order without any "ok" from me. I continue to use Dell Outlet because the laptops I have bought for family and myself have yet to have a problem (sans the one shipped with a bad LCD) in the 3 years since I have been buying them. |

Don't worry. They'll take care of you. Outlet items are a bit iffy when it comes to quality but Dell is usually good at resolving these issues. They'll send you the shipping label upon request.

Got myself an Alienware 14XR2 with i7-3610QM, 64 GB mSATA, 750 GB SATA Hard Drive 7200 RPM, 12 GB Dual Channel DDR3 1600MHz, 1 GB DDR5 NVIDIA GeForceGT 650M, HD+ screen for $1055 which costed me $905 as I had purchased three $300 gift cards with $50 promo cards.
