Going to Hawaii (Oahu / Maui) for honeymoon, any excursion/sites deals?

Hello all,

Planning to go to Oahu & Maui for our honeymoon 10/11-10/25. Flights and (most of the) hotels already booked. Looking to see if anyone knows of any deals or discounts on excursions and activities.

If you have any tips also, greatly appreciated! Never been to Hawaii, so I'm always up to hear the inside scoop if anyone knows any!

Congratulations, I'm heading to Maui around that same time for a wedding...
I've found several other threads about Hawaii here; some recommend getting the Entertainment coupon book when you arrive.
I've also found that tours/excursions/etc. can be booked through a lot of travel sites, even BOA has one for account holders. Also Costco.
I am just getting to the point of starting to compare those prices and will be curious to see if anyone else responds to your request.

if you have the time and the will power to say no, then i would say a time share presentation is worth it.

My wife and i got the following on Kauai - 2 Luau
(60$pp), 2 kayaking/waterfall trips ($50pp), 2 water canal tubing excursions ($65/pp), 2 1 hr helicopter rides with DVD ($150 pp) - for about 100$ and 1.5 hrs at a timeshare.

Use these excuses during the presentation:
What is your dream vacation?: Camping in the wilderness
How much do you typically spend for housing on your dream vacation?: Since my dream vacation is camping, i spend about 10$ per night. Pause and let the salesman try to figure out a price point(at 10$/per night - the math will never work out). No matter what package they try to sell you, they can never beat your "10$ a night dream vacation." They should leave you alone after this.

Another hint: DO NOT! let them drive you to the timeshare location. Drive yourself.

If theres one place you should eat its in Kihei...the restaurant is called Cuatro. Just google it. Some of the best food Ive ever had. Make sure to go during happy hour, 25% entire bill.

Go in to Lahaina town (or Kihei as well I suppose) and go to an excursion desk. They'll say "it's $100 pp for the tour ORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR you can go on a time share presentation and it's free" Big Grin

At the condo complex we stayed at they had a lady come and go through all the tours they offered one morning and she offered up the same thing.

You truly don't wanna miss any of the Haleakala Bike Tours (whether it be their Sunrise, Summitt Deluxe, or their Express). We lived on Oahu for 4 years. We took the Sunrise Tour on our way moving back to the mainland. It was, by far, one of the funnest things we had done ( including all 4 islands that we frequented during our 4 years living there).

They have their specials listed on their website:

BTW - they drive you to the top. You ride down...all downhill and beautiful @ ur own pace.

On the flip side I would say this is one of the worst excursions you can do. First off, it's friggin freezing and then after you've taken in the view and curves for the 1st five minutes the rest is more or less the same.

Agreed...after driving to the top and watching sunrise...we walked around a little then drove back down. Passed a couple people on the bike tours. It did not look fun. I dont see the advantage/benefit or "thrill" of riding a bike on a paved road in freezing temperatures. We were able to stop at the many overlooks on the way down in our rental car and take in the view. Not to mention like livninsc said, after a couple min its the same thing/view over and over. Just a bunch of switchbacks.

Save your money for something else. Dont pay these idiodic tour companies to drop you off on the top of a mountain and have you bike down. Its lame, and it'll cost you $50 or more per person.

So driving in a car on the way down cannot be done at your own pace? What is the advantage of riding a bike on a paved road in 40-50 degree temp?

There are numerous places to pull off the road and take pictures/walk around in a vehicle. Besides someone actually driving you to the top, whats the benefit? Considering most people will be suffering a little if not a lot of jet lag...getting up at 3am shouldnt be an issue to make it to the top for sunrise. I just dont know what the advantage is? Certainly not the price!

OMG, you're being advised on the wrong path about going to timeshare tourist hooks. Several hours out of your honeymoon/vacation time isn't really worth the measly "free" excursions they give you.
You should really weigh what your time is really worth.

It's a beautiful place.

If you'd like to know of some really hidden "free" places to go, PM me. I'll be happy to give you some ideas. I don't want to mention what they involve besides private snorkeling, etc. but when you live on the islands you learn many fun free things to do that tourist don't have the time to find out about.

I only mentioned the bike trip down the volcano as it was something we really enjoyed and it wasn't that expensive. Persons here feel that they can give "pro" advise against what one person's idea of fun is.

Riding down the volcano involved much more then riding down in a vehicle. You have the smells of the environment, the slower pace then that of a rental car speeding down the volcano, and if you're lucky you get to ride down thru the clouds. Stop & smell the flowers. You can't do that at 30+ mph. Just sayin...
