I wanna get a streaming media player with a usb port that can play videos off a flash drive. If it had that, I'd be all over this.
It looks very do-able to add a USB port Wink

I just bought one off CL but don't know how to turn it on from the remote Stick Out Tongue, is there anything I need to do every time to turn in on (the remote)? I have two other LTs and with those I just press any button Stick Out Tongue
The Roku XS is always on. There is no on/off button as it uses so little power there is no need to turn it off. (At least that's what it says in the manual.)

Just checked my local walmart. They are on clearance there. There were 3 left and all three looked like they had been opened and returned. Not a good sign.

I have the Sony media player and it does play off the usb port. Works great.

RCA is no longer a company of it's own, the name was sold several years back and is now owned by the makers of cheap junk like Soundesign, GPX, CRAIG, etc... Chinese no-name. But even larger companies like Sony are having their low-end offerings made by the Chinese-nonames and look at Apple - most of their stuff is made by Foxconn which is complete garbage. And people wonder why their iPhones always break!
My Foxconn S939 motherboard has been running like a champ for years Dontknow

Can anyone point me to a cheap streaming solution for streaming media from an HTPC that's in my living room to a bedroom tv? I know there are android sticks that can do this, but is there something thats plug and play in the $50 price range?

Look for a Western Digital Media Player (older model) on Craigslist or eBay. I'm sure you'll find them for under $50.

Live and Live Plus are previous models

If you are willing to leave the HTPC running, you can use a roku with the Plex plugin to stream from your computer to your bedroom. I am currently doing this and it works great. Refurbed roku's can be in the $50 range. I bought the newer Roku 2 HD and paid $58 brand new awhile ago. But I actually prefer my older XDS models.

I have been playing with this for the past 2 hours and so far I can't complain about it. It does gets hot and the picture is not as clear on netflix as my roku, but my roku cost me 100 bucks. Yes, the roku has better features hands down. But, for the kids' room and $17, I can't complain. It has a VUDU app section that is nothing but a selection of podcast / webisodes of some popular programming. Mostly NBC stuff. I am keeping my receipt close at hand, just in case it does go up in flames. Thanks OP.

Tried my local Walmart this morning and they had a bunch of them, but they all were marked $48 and scanned at $48. Don't know if they are going to go on clearance or what. I would definitely buy one for $15.74. Why not? If it works, great. If not, I'll return it. But as it stands now, it's not a deal at this time.

Thanks for the tips. I use Plex on my touchpad and it works great. I think I'll go with a Roku with the Plex plugin.
