This is a better camera than the S100 people go gaga over at $300.

Tax kills the deal though.

tax makes this even for previous lightning deal a few weeks back. thought i was missing out having ordered at $279, but after tax in CA now. only $8 less now. still a good deal if getting free s&h + no tax.

Got this when this camera was once a goldbox deal for 279. But i forgot about the tax now in CA... still a good deal either way.

Much as I know CA tax is here to stay, the years of no tax for CA purchases makes my CA shipped order that much more restrained in its placement.

All this MP chase. I learned it back in early days when I rem a friend's (I think Nikon?) camera with 3+ MP was putting out better pics than newer 5-8mp cameras. I forgot the model, it was black, flat and has 2 parts that can twist.

Saying "My camera has more megapixels so it takes a better picture" is like saying "My car is red, so it's nicer than yours".

Sensor size, sensor quality, CCD, etc all make the difference.

The cameras in that little Wall-E robot on Mars? 2 MP cameras.

Well, ok - long story short, that's because the project was planned when 2 MP was the 'thing', and it would take an act of congress to change it (sarcasm, but really - it would be heavily involved to change). so they went with a 2 MP camera with a high end lens, high end ccd, etc. That 2 MP camera on the rover probably cost as much as your house.
