good reason to leave godaddy

Good timing for me, I have all my domains with NameCheap except for one with GoDaddy that expires in a couple of weeks. A transfer to Namecheap will save me some coin and get all my domains under one roof.

Can we do this more than once? I'd like to move two similar domains to Namecheap and out of GoDaddy that don't expire till February. Maybe I should wait for another Namecheap deal in a few months.

I've had at one point 4 domains at 1and1. I have never used their hosting, just domains. 1and1 prices after the first year were comparable to others. I transferred all of my domains from Godaddy and 1and1 to Hover and Namecheap early this year.

They just posted this on their facebook page 10 minutes or so ago:

"Hang tight - we'll be posting something soon! But get some rest ... we probably won't have an official announcement for at least 10 hours "

I beg to differ, I cancelled my service and they sent me a bill even after I had paid for what I used! I believe I only had the domains active for roughly 9 months and the bill came out to $30+ which was a bit confusing to me as I believe I had originally bought the $1 deal. I still paid whatever the balance prior to cancelling...

They then reported me to a collections agency for new balances after I cancelled the service and I had to dispute that report for quite a while... Took about 4 months for it to be taken off my record!

If you're considering this, I'd recommend Godaddy before them. Please no more employees from 1&1 throwing up positive posts... It's getting annoying

I have been using domain names for 10 years. The only time I used 1 & 1 was because I wanted to take advantage of a deal, I knew I should have bought the domain elsewhere and just let them host it but after 7 months I wanted to move on and they would not let me take my name with me. This was back in 2006. I don't know if they have changed since then but all my fellow webmasters agree, 1 & 1 is just about as bad as you can get!

I went for go daddy's 10 year registration for two domain names and I believe it was $39 for each.

Not sure if other registrars offer such a long reg period for cheap. This was a promotional offer from go daddy though.

yea i had a go daddy coupon that was similar, $3 a year for upto 10 years, but i havent found any more like those since, and i think most of those $3 domain deals they had were for new customers only, because when i tried to use the coupon while logged in, they bumped me to the $7.99 per year price.
