i have the ryobi version, but with the fixed base, not the wheeled base. got it on clearance from home depot for under $200. it is a very good cutting saw. i would like the measuring guide to move a bit smoother, but its a minor issue. overall a great saw. not sure i would spend $370 on it.

Gosh, what a blast from the past! I had forgotten that Ryobi marketed a version of the fabled BT3100 under the Sears Craftsman brand. When Home Depot stopped carrying the Ryobi version I thought amateur woodworkers on a budget had lost a valuable tool option.

This is an astonishing tool. The BT3100 was a radically different take on the homeowner's table saw.
- Completely shrouded and ducted cutting blade for effective dust removal, and a true riving knife under the blade guard that raises, lowers and tilts along with the blade for maximum safety against kickback.

- An extruded aluminum rip fence that locks front and rear for perfectly square rip cuts and comes out of the box equipped with milled accessory slots for feather boards, auxillary fences and other accessories.

- An innovative sliding miter table with adjustable miter fence (also with milled accessory slots) in place of the notoritously inaccuarate, pint-sized miter guage you typically see on portable consumer grade saws of this size.

- It even features an integral router table as standard equipment, to allow you to mount an inverted wood router and utilize the rip fence and miter table for precise milling.

It was ahead of its time and compared to most of the Skil and low end B&D homeowner crap offered in big box stores, it still is. Judging from what I can see in the pictures, this Sears version inherits all those innovative features, plus a clever folding, wheeled platform.

What it wasn't was a particularly powerful saw and it lacks a magnetic safety switch (admittely rare on low end portable saws). So if you trip a fuse and forget to turn the tool off, it'll immediately start running - unattended - as soon as you flip the breaker back on from the basement

And it's a tool that does not tolerate well rough treatment or use by operators who don't take the time to properly set it up and use it the way it was designed, which is for precision woodworking versus high volume, rough production work.

This is a really smart buy for people who want to get into the craft of woodworking, as opposed to rough carpentry.

I bought one of these on an open box deal at Sears a couple years ago for $350. I jumped on it then since it was normally priced $499. I love this saw. Perfect for me since I'm working out of my garage on small projects. The folding mechanism is awesome. I haven't used the router attachment yet, though.

Another satisfied owner of this saw. It can be a little bit of pain to get set up properly, but once it is, it is awesome. As noted above, there is a great online community supporting this saw.

Should I get this or a miter saw (in the same price range, I think I can get a dewalt 12 inch double bevel, no slide) for an upcoming deck building project?

For 300 mile radius, keep getting that it's not available.

Yes, I would recommend a dewalt 12" dual-bevel miter saw for the deck job. It will be much faster and easier to get straight cuts on the large boards. I have used the crap out of my Dewalt 12" miter over the years. I only now purchased a Bosch table saw w/ gravity rise stand to cut some very long precise cuts for some cabinets I made, and some wood flooring I had to rip. Beyond that, my Miter saw has seen FAR more use than the table saw.

Is it difficult to set it up? I read some reviews on Sears.com complaining about the difficulty. Some even had to return them back to the store because theirs couldn't be set up correctly. I've read lots of good things about the ryobi saw over the years and really like the portable feature of this saw.

Currently I have a cheap, small table saw. When I bought it 15 years ago, I just put it up and have been using it for the last 15 years without checking if it was really squared or straight. I haven't been doing any precision stuff anyway, just some rough cuts. So I really don't have much experience of setting up a table saw.
