Amazon.com Epiphone Les Paul Ultra-II Electric Guitar faded cherry sunburst $453

I have an Ultra I - which I bought from American Jewelry and Loan (i.e. Hardcore Pawn!) about 5 years ago. I've always been interested in this one for the nanomag pickup.

I didn't know there was a III out now too. Wow, could that USB output look any cheaper on it?!?!?!

Regardless, I don't need to buy another guitar... or do I?

On CA - it's funny how many people don't understand the correlation between 'higher tax states' also being 'higher productivity states'. The richest states have the higher taxes. Hmm!

There's a REASON why the low-tax, low-productivity states - generally Republican states - have those 'inexpensive mansions', where there's less wealth so a CA income buys a lot. Hmm!

And that's in spite of CA suffering from Prop 13's slashing commercial property taxes, the requirement until last year for a 2/3 budget vote, and Republicans blocking all tax changes for decades with 1/3.

Each state has a similar standard of living but different costs of living. If you have a lower cost of living, you can produce goods at lower cost because your wages will be less yet still result in the same standard of living. So, states were it costs less to live will better commercial results in a global economy. I disagree with you calling those states low-productivity. The scales are tipping in favor of those states as the unions are driving manufacturing jobs to states like SC instead of shipping them overseas. See Boeing, Michelin, and BWM. Believe it or not, just taking a snap-shot of where production is now doesn't give the full picture of what type of political environments yield the best results. There are other factors there. The south still lacks behind substantially after it was devastated during the civil war. WII was a boost, but did not catch up industrially so you can't draw a direct comparison. Many people view CA as America's progressive model of failure. They are basically ahead of everyone else in their inevitable failure.

Look, you can have a 'culture of poverty' where a few wealthy people own everything and most people are 'poor', serving the wealthy, with low wages, and there just isn't as much for the people - think Mississippi or Indiana or West Virginia, filled with terribly hard-working people like coal miners, who make little but make nice profits for the owners; or you can have states with higher taxes, who create more for the people to enjoy, in states from California to Massachussetts to New York.

It's always possible to have a 'race to the bottom' as you suggest - get rid of unions, get rid of better worker wages and rights.

We do that to Europe, China and Mexico do it to us, the Philippines and Vietnam do it to China.

What we should be doing is supporting higher wages, more for the people.

We had what you want - it was called the 'gilded age' in the US. Full oif misery.

The median wage in the US in 1900 - after inflation - was $10,000. Why not return to those great days, like you want?

Agreed. I am 42 and just started playing again. Forgot what I was missing... Music is the source... I am so happy I made the decision to go back. I love music and it is one of the reasons life is wonderful.
