Is this worth the money savings over the new DS213? I was going to wait for a deal on that one or just buy it for whatever Newegg is offering it for.
Does this unit support their new software version 4.1? |

It drops ghz from the standard 213 (1.6 for standard versus 1.067 for the 213+) but the + model has a dual core and x86 processor that can run plex  . The 213+ processor is supposed to be MUCH better at handling multitasking (someone is downloading to it, someone is streaming music and another person streaming video.) The street price is $369 but everyone is charging a premium right now of about 399+. SLICKDEALS TO DATE:

got one and returned from the last on sales, crazy long formatting on my 2tb hard drive. I waited for 2 days but system was still busy. No way to know how long they will last, no indication show up, just wait for it. Don't know how or others using it but not for me. My 2c experience.

There won't be a DS213j, they're coming out with a DS213air which basically has a router built in.
to be honest, for people who don't care as much about money, the DS213 is probably the best bang for your buck. |

Question for you guys buying/owning this: Why not build a small, low power home server instead? You get more drives, more processing power, and it can be done significantly cheaper (especially if you need 4+ drives).
It's a serious question. I need a storage solution for backups on my network and I keep going back and forth between building a server and buying a small NAS. |

I went this route for ease of use, power consumption and size. I did not want to leave a large computer running all the time and also dont have space for it. |

I initially wanted just wanted something to back up stuff on but since I have gotten it I can't live without it! Check out the other features and the forum on the synology website and youtube. Updates come out often too. I am an intermediate user and I love it! |
