Great buffer. Got it for $99 in Amazon Black Friday deal in a kit form with clay, wax, polish, pads and other stuff:

http://www.griotsgarage.com/produ...rom=Search The kit for $99 came with the 10ft cord which was plenty long. Sometimes I just use an extension cord. It's the same as this kit: http://www.griotsgarage.com/produ...y=ourPicks Last edited by hapollo; 09-20-2012 at 11:35 AM.. |

Just got the shipped message. Ordered first thing this morning and expect to receive tomorrow. Now to buy pads.
Does this thing come with a backing plate? Or will that come with pads? Absolute newbie to machine polishing and waxing... Off to autogeek... Edit: I have lots of experience using meguiars three step paint cleaner, polish, and wax by hand. What pads should i be getting? Do I clay now cuz I have a machine rather than use liquid and hand rub? Last edited by jonsmith74; 09-20-2012 at 12:31 PM.. |

This does come with a 6 inch backing plate. A lot of people will usually replace this with a 5 inch backing plate so they can use 5.5 inch pads which are considered to be ideal. I personally have never had any issues with the 6 inch plate and 6.5 inch pads as this has more power than the porter cable and meguairs machine. There is a wealth of information out there on pads. Lake Country are considered to be some of the best quality for price, but there are about 10 different variations. You want to make sure that you match the correct product with the correct pad. Always start out with the least aggressive product/pad for the job and work your way from up from there. I recommend you do some reading up on autogeek.net or even the meguairs forums. As far as the process for properly cleaning your car. First you wash, clay, compound (if needed), polish, and finally wax. What steps you need to take and how often will really depend on the condition of your car's paint. |

Screw AutoGeek. Try Autodetailingsolutions first, Rick is a solid guy and doesn't peddle crap like AutoGeek. I'd get some 6" pads, backing plate, clay, polish, light compound and sealant. That should get you going.

For what it's worth, BJ's is still selling these on sale.
http://slickdeals.net/f/5133008-G...-BJ-s-com? It's about $89 bucks there but it still beats the actual price these sell for. |

What you could do instead is get a 3.5" backing plate and use 4" pads. That's what I do on mine. The 4" is small enough to get into crevices and on A-Pillars but big enough that there isn't a loss of control. It requires a lot of focus to make sure you are correcting properly. Autogeek sells a lot of backing plates and pads. |
