And guess what, they'll still blame it on the gubmint even if there weren't one. It's unclear where anybody ever got the idea that a free market results in low prices when the entire point of capitalism is to maximize profit and low prices are less profitable. Therefore the natural proclivity should be to collude and fix prices at the highest sustainable point.
Oh, it's illegal to collude and fix prices and whatnot as deemed by the gubmint? Who are they to say how a free market should work when it's a matter of divinity per Adam Smith whose book nobody bothered to read? |

Rumble, young man, rumble. These are interesting times we live in. Punctuation is key. Fruit is nature's candy.

What most "free market" advocates (the vast majority of whom don't possible specialized skills) don't realize is that our draconian restrictions on immigration are the only thing that separates them from the ghetto. |

I think you're ignoring the other side of the equation where individuals develop skills and market themselves to others in an effort to get jobs that pay more money. |

The irony of all this is that the GOP "free market" base tend not to be the creative classes who are going to hold the positional advantage when globalization really hits home. The "service economy" will follow manufacturing right down the tube when everyone else learns to speak english, too. Last edited by agent00f; 09-21-2012 at 08:03 AM.. |

I think the biggest change we are going through, and a system that is broken is our western social blue form of government. It has become to expensive to be afforded. It hurts youth the most, placing many deep into debt, with fewer work prospects. It's become ineffective in todays internet age. As we see today in Europe, governments there are going broke. The currency union appears close to breaking apart. Here in the US, cities, states, and even the nation have received credit down grades with warnings that more are to come if reforms are not made.
I recall reading that in Asia, a continent that has been emulating the west for a few decades, is now having second thoughts on following the same path the west has taken. "Asia Sees Blue Social Model as a Cautionary Tale" http://blogs.the-american-interes...lue-world/ From the article:

I'm pretty sure those kinds of blog with 'merica in the name don't actually read what they link, because it doesn't claim what they imply it does. |
