Time to stop the war.....on businesses and individual success!
"It is impossible for a man to learn what he thinks he already knows." -- Epictetus (c.55-c.135) A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have. -- Thomas Jefferson |

California is invested heavily in blue model ideas. Their government is dominated by politicians elected by public/ government unions. That in turn has made the state overly expensive as politicians bow to public union demands of generous pay, benefits. Green groups also dominate, creating mountains of regulations on businesses.
The old blue model used to work in California when times where good. Now, in tougher economic times, the old policies are bankrupting the state. It is a sight to see. Governor Jerry Brown has had cities go bankrupt, with more to come, and yet wants to build a $100 billion dollar train. The train makes some sense in the old days. The rail line will use union labor, could be sold to the public as creating quality jobs, and is supported by powerful green groups. Those are all wins for a blue politicians in previous times. Now, from outside the state, it has the appearance of the bizarre. Californians though do like the blue social model. They seem to be in denial about the debt they are in, believing the good times will continue. I hope they are right. Saw this article yesterday about Californian approval for the high costs of their state. "In the 2012 race, California is just an ATM" http://news.investors. |

This argument you're making, would be like saying Texas is falling apart because of all those meddling Dems farking everything up. It's nonsense... |

It's unclear where anybody ever got the idea that a free market results in low prices when the entire point of capitalism is to maximize profit and low prices are less profitable. Therefore the natural proclivity should be to collude and fix prices at the highest sustainable point.
Oh, it's illegal to collude and fix prices and whatnot as deemed by the gubmint? Who are they to say how a free market should work when it's a matter of divinity per Adam Smith whose book nobody bothered to read? |

We have a lot of open air reservoirs where I live and a few years back everyone thought Al Qaeda was going to go and poison them somehow. Apparently someone had just seen the movie "The Tuxedo"... Anyways, I read an article in our local paper where the cost to cover the reservoirs was so ridiculously prohibitive that they decided it was cheaper to just buy water at high rates year round basically than stock up on rain water in the winter months and use it during the summer months. F'ing stupid if you ask me... Anyways, most of the reservoirs, atleast the ones I can see in to have water in them and no roof. And still, it's not like the state just pays for the bill if it has to happen anyways. We, the consumers, will end up paying for it so I don't know exactly how that's a state expense. |
