When I spoke to T-Mobile inquiring about how the value plans compare/contrast to classic plans a couple weeks ago, the rep told me that data plans aren't required with the value plans when you buy a smart phone. Was she incorrect in this statement, or is the 5gb data requirement specific to this deal because of the rebate?

So what the rep said is correct. Data is not normally required for the Value Plan. I believe T-Mobile is betting that many new SG S III users will end up needed 5GB or higher data plans going forward. Last edited by potus; 09-22-2012 at 05:48 PM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

I've seen like 5 of these same exact threads and have yet to find out where the slick deal is. It's essentially getting you to pay an unsubsidized price while still keeping you on contract and charging a bit more per month than no-contract.
Does T-mo think their customers are idiots? Kind of insulting, to be honest, this "deal" makes me want to switch providers. They've had the worst deals on the S3 since release. They really should be kissing their customer's asses right now considering the position they are in. |

Just wanted to shed light on my experience tonight in-store at T-mobile. I had called their corporate line, received all the details-$149 down payment for phone with matching mail-in rebate, $20 x 20 payments, $40/month for unlimited high speed data, talk text for additional line, only that line would have 2 year contract.
HOWEVER, when I went into the store, a different story unfolded. They gladly accepted the details, processed the information, then presented a contract to sign that only had 500 anytime minutes, was more expensive and extended the contract on ALL of the lines. I argued with them forever, they stated they had no record of my phone conservation in my account, to which I told them they could check the recorded line. I have had them to this in the past to confirm prices and they have always honored it. The manager was being an idiot and wouldn't agree to what I was quoted, so I threatened to walk out. One and a half hours later, after talking to the loyalty department in the store, I walked out with the deal on the Galaxy S3 ($549-149 MIR with 20 payments), only 2 year contract on my new line, $10 monthly credit for TWO YEARS AND MY 15% GOVT DISCOUNT. Breaking down the price from the contract, the new line with unlimited high speed, talk and text will cost $30 including all taxes and fees. It was a huge pain but totally worth it in the end. |
