I got the my-ditto... Did some testing and it seems to be slow for network access.. max i could get was 13MBps which is inline with other reviews [computershopper.com] online. I was originally thinking to use this as an off-site backup solution but the software does not support automatic backup over internet.

On the positive side, its the easiest solution I have seen to remotely access the hard disk from any where. USB is handy when accessing from not your own computer.

I am still thinking what to do, but it might go back if I get some time to customize the pogoplug i recently bought.

I got this NAS a few hours ago from eBay including a 1TB HDD, all for $178. Can't wait to get it!

Did you update the firmware? I'm hoping the update(s) increase the speed.

Actually the unit I got has 10.2.19.6 firmware installed and website only has 10.2.19.5 available for download. I am not sure if there is any new firmware available.

Just bought it and set it up. It's difficult to stream movies on my Samsung over wireless as it is choppy for the large 1080 movies. Would faster internet help? Or do I need to connect it directly via usb cable ?

I bought it and have the rebate form printed but am seriously thinking of taking it back and buying the synology ds413j. I know the Synology is nearly twice as much (after the ReadyNAS rebate) but check the Hard Drive compatibility list for the ReadyNAS, its pitiful and the forums and filled with nothing but issues with Hard Drives that WERE on the HCL but later being dropped off it when users had problems!!
Cheap is good, but safe data is better...

When I bought this last year, I stuck in two Hitachi 2 TB drives and a Seagate 2 TB drive. None of them were on the list, but they work just fine.

The HCL is only for support issues. The netgear team only tests it with so many devices. If you have an issue, just tell them the drives are one of the models on the HCL if they ask and you'll be fine.

If your drives are old, make sure you update their firmware from the MFG, however.

I use their Raid-X in mine. I only wish I had installed extra RAM before I loaded my drives. I will do it with the next one I get (Been eyeballing the 8 drive version they have for future use).

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, none of my three 2 TB hard drives are "certified" for this device, but work without issue in it.

FYI - this the NV+ v2, which does not have upgradable RAM. It also really doesn't need it. It's ARM-based and faster than the SPARC-based "v1."
