I reread the quote. It does seem like he "promised" (threatened?) that if the package was not passed unemployment would reach double digit. One might claim that means if we passed the package unemployment will not reach double digit. It is a bit weak logic but it is not that unreasonable of conclusion. So we did have double digit unemployment at one time and now we don't. Take for that for what it is worth. |

It seems every liberal here wants to play the he didn't say: I Mr. Barrack Obama promise that if you pass this extremely expensive stimulus we will avoid this number of unemployment. What he wrote probably weren't even his words.. they were crafted by some group of writers to sell a product (the stimulus) by fear of certain economic issues.. but never promise everything.. Essentially what you're all claiming is that everything Obama says is somewhat like a television commercial for the new iPhone. We didn't "promise" it would be faster, have better connectivity, make you super cook etc.. but we implied it in numerous ways. But it was never truly a promise.. because someone might hold us accountable for those claims. Everyone denying this is just in denial. Obama himself said on numerous occasions that he would be judged and held accountable for the economic recovery. He even asked to held accountable.. But, then it's I didn't realize how serious it truly was. Oh and those shovel ready jobs.. oops.. excuse after excuse after excuse. All aboard the titanic.. We're backing up and ready for round 2. |

Triggered or untriggered, passed or unpassed, they're going to steal it anyway. Not sure what all the fuss is about.

To me its like buying a "FAR" item. while it does cost some money upfront, ultimately you get it back and its "free". But this is the problem when we lump taxation in with "entitlements". paying SS and medicare taxes is not that same as paying income tax. discussing them both at the same time is the problem. they are not the same and should not be treated as such. one is a tax in the classic sense and the other is a retirement/disability fund. |

The United States federal earned income tax credit or earned income credit [wikipedia.org](EITC or EIC) is a refundable tax credit for low- and medium-income individuals and couples, primarily for those who have qualifying children. When the credit exceeds the amount of taxes owed, it results in a tax refund to those who qualify and claim the credit. That is, this credit is refundable. This tax credit is provided, in part, to offset the burden of social security taxes and to maintain an incentive to work |
