The farming industries where actually better under Democratic Socialist Batista, same with cigar manufacturing. When the Cuban revolution occurred and all land was nationalized, the incentive of providing quality products from own's own land changed to meeting quota's set by a central authority by any means necessary, which led to over farming and in the case of cigars, poorly aged tobacco. Most of the good tobacco growers fled to other Latin American countries.
