I was going to mention the same. In fact with ATT I think the ETF is $325. However when asked if I get an unlock code after I terminate, I was told NO.

With that being said you can see Verizon has HSPA+ and GSM frequency bands covered. Just not the other half the AT&T LTE Bands

To buy a phone that way, you have to keep plan for atleast one month else you have to return the phone for refund. Hence total price of the phone would be 220+325+activation fee($36) + one month of plan ($75)

since the iphone 5 from verizon apparently ships unlocked, what do they have in place 2 prevent someone from buying it for $200 w/ the contract, and putting it on a prepaid like H20 before ever activating it w/ verizon?

Nothing, they don't care what you do with your phone. all they wanted was your 2 year commitment.

On your Verizon iphone:

- With your Verizon sim, you are using CDMA 3g and 4g LTE (no hspa+)

- With your AT&T sim, you are using hspa+ 3g and 4g (no LTE)

The ITU stupidly redefined 4g as hspa/wimax/or LTE, back in Dec 2010 (google it)

it looks like you are getting hspa+ on att and lte on verizon, but no lte on att. unfortunately the verizon iphone 5 cant do att lte. hspa+ is still pretty damn good though.

You do realize that you will use your minutes and data for the month, so that one month plan is not really a loss.

If you are buying outright, you are paying $650 plus tax = approx $700+.

This way, $200 + tax = $220 + $350 ETF + $36 activation fee = $606 + $75 one month fee (which I do not treat as loss) = $681. You still save over $20.

And if you buy no committment phones from a service provider they are locked to that service provider. Unlocked phones are only available from Apple (and as per this thread from Verizon).
