Website hosting and maintenance
I'm quite new to owning and managing a website, so I wanted to make sure I've done the right things.1. I purchased a domain from GoDaddy (since moved to namecheap.com and paid for several years of renewals and got WhoIs protection free for the first year). 2. Got a Google Apps for Business [google.com] account back when the benefits for the Free account were greater than what they are now. 3. Bought webhosting from hostlatte.com. Currently, whenever someone goes to my domain, the site is redirected to my LinkedIn profile. Eventually, when I have substantive things to include, it'll be a portfolio site. I am assuming that when I want to no longer have it redirect to LinkedIn, I'll need that webhosting account (so as of now, it'll remain dormant). Is it safe to have namecheap do the work for redirecting traffic to my LinkedIn profile? Would that constitute an "inactive" hosting account even though I'm paying yearly (it was a SD price, of course) or is that safe to do as long as I pay? I somehow have the Google Apps account hooked up to my site for email purposes so that if anyone emails me at "rebelx@domainname.com" it goes into that specific Apps inbox. That's what Google Apps is for, right? Did I do everything/purchase what I need, correctly? |
