be careful tho, it might be able to supply the larger current, but going over the rated amperage might just burn out the charger
Though I have no way of ruling out this kind of failure, I find it highly doubtful that the charger is capable of supplying current that will damage it. If it was, every consumer that plugged in a modern smart phone would have broken it. Many of them would have posted scathing reviews.
I wasn't forcing my phone to draw that much, that's just what it draws whenever it is connected to a source capable of supplying it. They may have only rated it for 0.8A because when it's hot in a car it will encounter a thermal limit and automatically scale down its current.
I presume at one time they included a lanyard to go into the lanyard hole on the charger. I imagine they realized that noone wanted to carry a usb charger on their wrist or neck, so they stopped including it.
