The Harbor Freight Float Charger is also good for maintaining batteries over long periods of time without use. http://www.harborfreight.com/cata...%20charger
I have purchased them for as little as 5.99 with their various discounts, sales, and coupons.
I considered this charger too but after reading the less then stellar reviews, I decided that I would be happy to pay 4 times as much for a better charger. The Schumacher chargers get excellent ratings on the Walmart site. I don't want to risk damaging my battery to save 15 bucks. No reviews yet on the Die Hard but they seem to be made by Schumacher too.
*DISREGARD* - Walmart link above is cheaper and looks to have a 5 year limited warranty.
You have to pick up in store or it's $10 to ship. And unless I'm misreading the site, it appears that both models come with a 2 year defective replacement warranty.
The linked Schumacher charger above only as a 2 year warranty per the manufacturer's website. I wouldn't trust the warranty information on Walmart's website. While Walmart's site does say that it has a 5 year warranty, it also says that the Schumacher XM1-5 has no warranty but it in fact does have a 2 year warranty. I have the box in front of me.
I was going to return my Die Hard charger for the "5 year" warranty Walmart charger but since it's also only a 2 year, I'll keep the Die Hard pending that the warranty is actually 3 years. I'm expecting to get it today.
UPS guy just delivered this.
Impressions compared to the Schumacher XM1-5 from Walmart:
-Manual switch between 6v and 12v. Schumacher is automatic. Peace of mind that it's always where I need it?
-Noticeably lighter then the Schumacher. Heavier is better? Durable/quality/longer lasting? Schumacher has the auto 12v/6v switch so that's maybe why it's heavier?
-Grounded. Schumacher is not. Doesn't really matter to me, but grounded is probably better.
-Cigarette plug option is a plus.
No other real operational differences. Since this is made by Schumacher, hopefully it will be as durable as their self branded products. The warranty is longer (3 years for the Die Hard vs. 2 years).
The Wife just returned from Sears Auto Center after picking up the three additional chargers I was able to get from the Sears Live Chat girl the day after the Kmart one day sale for that same sale price.
I have put the 1st one on the Motorcycle, one will go on a 6volt system Antique car and the other two will go on farm tractors.
