Had one of these for a while, actually 2 to be exact.They are clunky as hell and have a horrible UI that freezes constantly (this happened on both units). id recommend a 2nd gen apple tv jailbroken over this thing :-/

I have 5 of these throughout the house, best device ever, very stabile and great for filling up and taking camping. Only thing missing on it is amazon prime instant video.


Had wdtv live before, and it needed a lot of reboots.

Agreed, I like my custom rom on my PBO much better but if you want something that works great with little fuss this can't be beat. I get these for my friends all the time and load a whole bunch of shows on them. I mean I test the hard drive fully with random data that I forget to delete off and then I give them to my friends as gifts.

Stealing is wrong and sharing tv shows with friends would be like letting them borrow a book. Don't share, its not nice. its illegal and authors need to eat too.

What custom rom you have on your PBO?

I am super sorry but I don't remember. I flashed it almost 2 years ago and never looked back. It works and does everything I want, mostly just play media, Torrents and stream you tube. I really should look into it, I am sure there are updates for it.

But in my book the PBO is definitely the best, has a better remote with more functions, it works fine with out an internal hard drive. But to do things like BitTorrent you will want to put a SATA 2.5 hdd, It doesn't have wireless so you will want to get a cheap USB wifi Adapter. I got mine from DealExtreme. I typically use my cat 5 but I am always bringing my PBO to friends houses and it is just easier to use the wifi.

Since most people don't really want to go through all that trouble then the WD with the HDD is your best option.

If 2 yrs ago then it's not the new GUI and so. I have 3 PBO, 1 in living room, 1 in family room, and the last one in master bed room and put in 500GB SATA in each, also hook up wired ethernet, never tried wifi so wonder what brand and model of wifi you've got from dealextreme? although it's not giga wire, only 100 but I think it's steady and good enough for streaming from 4TB NAS drives (2TB x 2) which store all ripping and downloading movies. Now kind of interested in Android media player; wonder if anyone have any exprience on those???

I had the old WD TV and it didn't work with a lot of the video formats I have -- is this more compatible with the lesser known video formats?

these are $120 on bestbuy and amazon new.

i wish PBO's were still around, i broke the USB port which connects to the computer.
Now it is such a pain to copy on to the local 320gb hardrive.

I know its not the newest, I got my PBO 2 black fridays ago, and didn't flash it till well after xmas, All I really wanted was to stream you tube. And since it works well right now I don't want to mess with it. the WIFI I use is a super tiny one on deal extreme, I am at work right now but can't check it. Regardless I had a friend that bought 20 of them because mine worked with BT4 and he wanted to sell them to friends... LOL they changed the chip set so even thought he bought the same thing we couldn't get them to work with BT4..

I want to mess with a UG802 but then I heard about issues with the built in wifi and I don't think it has built in blue tooth. I am sure a newer model will come out soon that will have built in blue tooth.

It's quite easy to fix that. Just solder out a mini usb from an old cell phone or device that has mini usb connector then open pbo and solder to replace it
