Considering the fail rate of the 1.5TB Seagates, that was probably fair.

If you look at inflation and the current economic climate (without getting political here...), HDD prices are probably about where they were before the floods - relatively speaking.

They will probably continue to go down a bit (as they always do) but they're not exactly where they were pre-flood. The best I ever saw for a 2TB drive was $60 A/R ($10 I think). I've seen them for $85 post-flood with no rebate.

These aren't the cheapest drives available however. These are kind of a cross between a consumer drive and an enterprise grade drive made for a home NAS.

I just read that we are just now starting to see inventory return to pre-flood levels, but that prices won't go below pre-flood prices until 2014. So this year we should see more 'fair' prices as supply catches up, and then actual *deals* in another year or so...

@dubleo -- did they pay YOU $15 to take the drive, or did you have to pay them for a seagate?
