Shelf units slide out to the side, shelves pull toward you, glass tops rock up, it's pretty nice!

havent read the thread and not sure if Ikea updated this bed but it is seriously flawed. Bought a King hopen in 2004

Two Hopens both broke in the same place....center of side rail. Long known flaw. Ikea refused support it. Will never buy from them again.

Most of their furniture is from Europe, along with some production from America as well. Very little of their furniture is Chinese. Their other products are from all over the world though.

Most furniture on the market is Asian anyway, just that the better looking stuff is from Malaysia or Thailand or India. Nothing is stopping other companies from making simple, modern furniture though, so IKEA kinda has a lock on that.

Wal-Mart was a great concept up until Sam Walton's death. A big store with great selection and good prices that also used to buy and advertise American products, once he passed away his kids sold out to China and everything went downhill since.

" everything went downhill since"? Hardly. No big defender of WM, but they are the largest US private sector employer with over 1.2 MILLION. And they are at the very top for corporate charity donations with almost 1 BILLION given annually. Compare this to the richest company in the US, Apple, who finally just this year from intense pressure, donated $50 million. This year, Ikea donated $40 million to be split by Britain and the US. Btw, Apple has 96% of their products made in China, which is way more than WM's vendors in total..but Apple is deemed "cool"..go figure. WM did not sell out to China any more than Home Depot, Target, Sports Authority or even Ikea. I have shopped Ikea and they have a very large percentage of their products made in China...a simple look at labels of origin will prove it. In fact, China is their no. 1 country they purchase from.

From personal experience, this bed will look spectacular in your room. The one downside, like others have mentioned before, is the ridiculous siding that makes getting in and out of bed a hassle. If you are one to adapt for the sake of vanity, then this is a good deal.
