Honestly, it's somewhat understandable that you risk running into a few initial issues when you buy the 1st generation or year model of a product. This particular problem isn't so much a quality issue with the hardware as it is an assembly line oopsie.

It was an issue with some of the screws not being fully tightened from the factory on the initial batch of N7s. Per Google, it has been corrected in subsequent batches and they will gladly replace your N7 with a fixed one if you contact them.

Additionally, it took all of 60 seconds on Google (query = fix nexus 7 screen) to find multiple links describing the process of fixing the screen yourself in roughly 5 minutes. It looks like it can be done with nothing more than a screwdriver. For the $200-$300 I'll save buying an N7 vs an iPad 3, I'm definitely willing to spend 5 minutes tightening some screws that they missed on the assembly line.

This deal has gone the way of Michael Jackson and Obama's honor...

Damn, I was going to get two of them. Back to $250.

We all know that for some, a tablet (or smartphone) is just as much a "trophy" to be shown off to others, not just something selected for how it functionally complements your life, just like wives are for some men (and I should say this attitude is held at least as much by women as men when it comes to smartphones/tablets, IME). So I guess in that context it makes sense. But if that is really what is important to one in a tablet -- impressing other people with the superficial beauty of his acquisitions, instead of the good sense in choosing & taking care of them -- well, impressing the kind of people that get impressed by such things -- one probably should be buying an iPad anyway.

C'mon man. What are you even spewing, Fandroid? You're like the NFL replacement ref that called the interception a TD in Seattle this past Monday. The iPad is leaps and bounds beyond the Nexus 7 in terms of build quality, and I'm sure many here would agree. Mine squeaks and rattles and has a bit of lift, but it's the price I pay for getting a tablet the caliber of the Nexus 7 at cost.

Nexus 7 is a good device, but the build quality is below average. Besides the screen popping issue, the speaker is cheap and the screen color is muted compared to the excellent screen in the Kindle HD.

Its also now overpriced to some degree compared to the Kindle HD and Nook Color HD.

I'm so glad I waited on getting one of these. I was seconds from preordering back when they first were up, but I stopped myself when I noticed that it doesnt have HDMI out.

Well I'm going to a Google conference next week, and aside from getting the opportunity to attend what I assume is going to be an amazing conference with priceless information and valuable networking opportunities, the invitation mentions that I'll be taking home a Nexus 7.

I wouldnt call it obsolete. Id say the $99 one will have much lower specs than the current nexus 7.. so its good if you are willing to give up specs and pay less. Now If the $199 thinner one has a better screen and processor then id be worried. Im still considering what to do.. #FirstWorldProblems
