It's not that it doesn't exist, or even that it's particularly bad, it's that when you write a virus the first thing you do is make sure it gets by MSE's heuristic scanner. If it doesn't, you keep twiddling it until it does. MSE has historically performed poorly in proactive tests for this reason.

FWIW, if you have sufficient resources you make sure your virus can't get picked up by anyone's heuristic scanner before you release it (for example, Flame, other nation-state level kits).

[edit]: Source on MSE's heuristic performance: http://www.av-comparatives.org/co...march-2012. http://www.av-test.org comes up with similar numbers. FWIW, they do show an improvement from July to August on MSE, but Kaspersky still comes out well ahead.

Kaspersky is Russian company, I don't trust them. Always see this software FAR, maybe because they are trying to steal your data and identity? They assist Iran, so can't have any morals or ethics. Buyer beware.

I share your concern to an extent. But in light of what our own American government has been up to lately, I'm not so sure we should be trusting companies like Symantec or Microsoft any more than we do Kaspersky.

What is the difference between the FAR 2013 antivirus and the kaspersky lab pure 2.0 FAR deal posted earlier? Which one would be better to get?

The good part is that $50 is better than the $60 Kaspersky PURE deal from yesterday. The bad part is that half the rebate is an upgrade rebate. Think I'll wait for the base rebate to cover the whole purchase price. Those come up pretty regularly.

I'd honestly get neither (wait, hear me out! :-) ). Kaspersky Internet Security is my happy medium product. It provides all the features I need and nothing I don't. I use LastPass to store my passwords so that feature of Pure is unnecessary for me. Pure hasn't been updated recently (I think) and KAV isn't quite enough. If I were you I'd wait and see what FAR deals pop up on Frys.com come 3-4am EST tomorrow morning. Kaspersky Internet Security or Kaspersky One would probably be best bets if available then.

But, gun to my head, I'd choose regular KAV. I'd rather have KAV + a free firewall than the Pure suite running on my system.
