HP Proliant ML110 servers $300 in multiple configurations with free shipping UPDATE: DEAD
Hello all first time posting, so please forgive any mistakes made in posting.
Newegg has promo codes to bring the price of couple of their ML110 models down to $300 bucks:
These servers are pretty amazing for this price:
My recommendation would be:[LIST][*] for a NAS server get the core i3 server (664723-S01) [newegg.com] and put something like Freenas [freenas.org]on it [*] for a virtual machine host (esxi, KVM, etc.) get the xeon-e3 server [newegg.com]
CONS:
The server with the xeon proc does not come with any hard drives, you will have to purchase a separate hdd
You also probably want to put some extra ram in this.
You can try to use these as a desktop, but may have a hard time with audio etc., and may require additional purchases.
Questions? comments?
Edit: I forgot to mention the hard drive caddy requirement, I know the newegg link specifies that you must use HP hard drives only, but these servers can take any sata hard drives as long as they are in a HP caddy, as someone else already specified in the thread, you can grab them from ebay or local craigslists.
Newegg has promo codes to bring the price of couple of their ML110 models down to $300 bucks:
- UPDATE: DEAD: HP ProLiant ML110 G7 Tower Server System Intel Xeon E3-1220 3.1GHz 4C/4T 2GB (1 x 2GB) No HDD [newegg.com]
I am really excited about this particular model, and ordered one.
The processor [newegg.com]alone costs around $200, granted it is a last generation micro-arch (sandy bridge), but this thing is perfect for throwing up a linux server with KVM or making it an esxi machine. Promo code: $150 off w/ promo code HPSER928 Total price : $449.99 - $150 = $299.99 shipped Standard Newegg tax policy. - UPDATE: DEAD HP ProLiant ML110 G7 Tower Server System Intel Core i3 2120 3.3GHz 2C/4T 2GB 1 x LFF SATA 250GB HDD [newegg.com]
Compared to the other server the only difference I can see is the addition of a 250GB hard drive and a slower processor (2cores in this i3 vs. 4 cores in the Xeon, and of course other i3 associated slowness) for the same price. $120 off w/ promo code HPSER927 Total price: $419.99 - $120 = $299.99
These servers are pretty amazing for this price:
- Hot pluggable hard drive (seems to be able to take 3.5" Sata drives, they say upto 2TB, but I think it can handle even upto 4TB)
- Dual server gigabit NICs
- ECC ram upto 16GB
- multiple pci-e slots
- ILO etc.
