Vegas for a mini-honeymoon

Give us some more specifics on what weekend and how many nights. What do you classify as a nicer room? $100ish per night on the weekend is going to limit your options by a bit.

By a nicer room, I think I just mean it doesn't look like a 1980s motel room. Something that's been renovated within the past 10 years? I don't need a terrible amount of amenities. Ease of access to the strip is probably the most important.

Weekends: Oct.13th-14th or Oct. 20-21st

Weekday: Oct. 14-16th (is there a big price differential between weekend or weekday?) If it's a big improvement in the room, then probably a weekday. Just realized I have some vacation days I can still use.

I've been travelling with my husband quite a bit recently, and we've actually found that off-strip dining is much better in terms of price and ambiance. It's definitely worth trying one of the buffets- I recommend Wicked Spoon at the Cosmopolitan, especially for their desserts. For off strip dining, two recos depending on what kind of food you like. Both would be more than nice enough for a romantic dinner. Make sure to make reservations.

Mundo- modern Mexican
Raku- Japanese izakaya- this is where the vegas chefs go to eat after they get off work. Truly amazing.

I would do the usual, check out flight + hotel as a package on expedia.com or something, then price them separately using promo codes you can find on mycheapvegas.com.

As for buffets, the new one at the Caesars is getting rave reviews, and WIcked Spoon at the cosmo is always great.

For shows, I highly recommend Absinthe, the best show I've seen on the strip.

Ahh, it'd only be any one of the 2 nights or the 3 nights. We're driving in so, so no flights to book. Thanks both for the advice! So it's usually expedia.com and mycheapvegas.com for the best prices?

What's the best room (most comfy bed etc.) for 100ish/night on the strip during this time of year? Is it possible to expect something 4 star? 3 star?

In Vegas, depending what's going on in town prices can fluctuate like crazy. Same thing with weekdays/weekends.

Just looking quickly on Hotels.com for Oct. 14-16th... Here are a few solid options in your price range.

• Luxor - I've stayed in their Tower rooms before. Pretty nice, standard hotel room.
• MGM Grand - Look into their New Grand Room. These rooms were renovated within the last couple of months.
• Monte Carlo - Haven't stayed here before, but rooms are standard and def. within your budget.
• Planet Hollywood - Cheapest on the list, no resort fee, decent location.

Just be aware that all these MGM properties have a daily resort fee... except for Planet Hollywood. Check out pictures on TripAdvisor to see what the rooms really look like.

Okay for your dates, only the 14th-17th has reasonable rates. Like Prigs suggested, I would go with Planet Hollywood. It's by far the best bang for your buck hotel among the list. This is a 4 star hotel, the rooms are decent, all with flatscreen TV's, great location with a mall downstairs and walgreens next door to save a bit of money, and it's pretty central location on the strip so you can spend a day walking one direction, and the next day walking the other direction.

The cheapest I found was Planet Hollywood Plan Ahead and Save Package [7eer.net] where total cost is $235.85, about $34 cheaper than you'd find at Expedia or any other online travel agencies.

Also, no resort fee, and free wifi down by Earl's of Sandwich. Go with this one, everything else is overpriced, this is by far the best one.
