I am debating whether I would purchase a SmartTV w/ full browser capabilities or a LED TV with a Boxee.
I am having a hard time calculating because it seems like the prices come out to just about the same in the end. I visited Costco and noticed a Samsung SmartTV 40" for 900 today.
If I go to frys, the Samsung UN40EH6000 40" is around 770 + Boxee ($200) = 900 also. Lets say I choose a low-cost brand like Vizio 42" from Costco (600) + Boxee (200), I would only save about $100 instead of getting the 40" SmartTV Samsung which is better overall.
So would you say that unless I plan on getting a standard LCD not LED, the SmartTV is a better deal in the end?

I don't know about the browsing capabilities of Samsun SmartTV, but as I understand it, they don't have full browser, if any. The "Apps" on Smart TVs are propitiatory for the brand of TV, that is you can't go to any app store to load new apps, you get what you get until they decide to add more. The only smart TV that is worth looking into are the ones with GoogleTV built-in (Sony & LG) or buy any TV and then buy GoogleTV set-top box. It basically is running Android 3.2 and you have access to full Chrome browser and many apps that you get from the Google Play store. I personally have the Sony Blu-Ray player with built-in GoogleTV and love it. Lots of media streaming options from local HDD or over the internet.
I don't much about Boxee but constantly read that it has issues and is over priced.
