Google Chrome with Cut the Rope - where's the game?
I saw this Google Promotion:http://www.google.com/intl/en/chr...-the-rope/ Supposedly, Google Chrome with the "Cut the Rope" game included. I hooked up a wireless N dongle to hook our kids' PC up to the Internet temporarily, then clicked on the "Get Chrome with Cut the Rope" link. It downloaded Google Chrome and installed it. I then made sure that Chrome would load properly, unplugged the Wireless N dongle, and put it away. I haven't seen the game "Cut the Rope" included anywhere. Can anyone tell me how I can let my kids play it offline? Hopefully the game was truly included in the download, and will allow offline play, since we don't leave the kids' PC hooked up to the Internet except for very rare occasions. I'm completely new to Google Chrome, since we usually use Mozilla Firefox. I only downloaded Chrome for the free bundled game that they advertised - and it doesn't seem to be there. Hide not your talents, they for use were made. What's a sun-dial in the shade?

you can "install" it for free by visiting the chrome web store [google.com]. But all you really have to do to play it is go to: http://www.cuttherope.ie/ in any modern browser. I have my doubts that installing it will allow for offline play, many of these game installations just create a button that takes you to a web page. You'll notice many of the apps you can install in chrome will become greyed out when there's no internet access.
There are other ways to control and limit your kids internet access without completely disconnecting from the internet. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-U...rams?T1=t3 http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/l...s.85).aspx I can't find the link to the old version that worked on xp anymore, it's probably still out there. EDIT: here it is: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/do...px?id=3945 You can also use http://www.opendns.com/home-solutions/ for content filtering pretty easily and for free. You get some additional features if your pay. Last edited by jkee; 09-29-2012 at 01:45 PM.. |

Thanks - I couldn't even see the cut the rope icon when connected to the Internet. I plugged the wifi dongle back in, uninstalled Chrome, then reinstalled from the link. This time Cut the Rope was showing up. Even after disconnecting the wifi dongle, I can play it, but there is no sound. I guess the kids will get to enjoy it still that way.
We have the slowest Internet you can get through Time Warner. Our telephone comes over it as well using NetTalk. I don't want the possibility of two of our PC's downloading video, files or whatever and causing the telephone connection to mess up, so we only have one connected. If we ever decide to pay the additional monthly fee to increase our connection speed, then I would consider connecting the kids' computer. However, I feel much safer with it being disconnected. |

If you configure QoS on your router properly to favor voice traffic and traffic from your computer and your ATA and not the kids computer it should work fairly well. You could also be very selective about what sites you allow using the above tools and limit their access to lower bandwidth sites.
Many ATA's also have two ethernet ports and can be installed between your modem and router in a manner that will ensure the ATA always has enough bandwidth. A voip call really doesn't require that much bandwidth. |
