With all these comparisons of different boxes (Roku, XIOS, AIOS, PBO, etc etc), how well do you think the OUYA will do when it's released? I've been eyeing the AIOS and it looks pretty awesome, but I already have the OUYA pre-ordered and if it will be able to do all this anyways, is it even worth it to get one of these boxes?

I keep struggling with these embedded boxes.
Such a nice idea for 80% of the times you want to watch something digital on your TV. Then they all fall down when you want to watch media that's not a pre-programmed "app," like NBC Olympic coverage or NFL Sunday Ticket streaming. |

Agreed. We also find Airplay helpful for music. Sending music to AppleTV from our iPad, iPhone, or the PC (via iTunes) computer is incredibly easy. Our AppleTV is connected to our home sound system with speakers in several rooms. I tried for many years to stay away form proprietary Apple products. But they just seem to do it right when other options fail. Just my 2-cents. |

Don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet, but you can install Plex media server on your computer and the Plex app on your Roku. Then you can stream movies, tv, music, and photos from your PC to your TV.
You can also stream to other PCs, Android, and iOS devices. Nothing beats a Roku + Plex for those looking to stream their own content. |

I too also thought the Apple TV would be useless but with all my recent movie purchases, the movies come with a free digital copy so I decided to give it a shot. Once you activate the digital copy on iTunes, it can be streamed directly from iTunes on the AppleTV (you could also download it to your computer and stream it through Home Sharing). The AppleTV is an incredible device in my opinion. I just figured out how to do Airplay mirroring via my Macbook Pro and there's nothing like projecting everything from my 13" screen to my 55" screen.

You also forgot about all the time you invested up front in obtaining a BR drive, Ripping program and an encoding program and learning how to use them. .... Last edited by trip1eX; 09-30-2012 at 09:08 AM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

Also what is this wide range of channels on Roku. ..because no one ever mentions much if anything of interest. I mean I have hundreds of channels on my cable box but you don't see me bragging about it. That's because much of the time all are sht. And I have to pay for them.
