Apple TV (Latest Version) 89.99 plus shipping

Wonder if Fry's will match this in store. I was going to swing by anyway. They claim to match internet prices, but I never tried it myself, and I heard some horror stories from people who tried to do it.

It takes more than 3 hours. You have to include shopping for parts. Unpacking them. Assembling them. Installing the OS. Configuring everything. That's more than 3 hours. And that's if you know what you are doing.

If you have have never built your own computer triple and quadruple that time.

It is easy to forget how much time you spend doing something if you enjoy it and it is your hobby easy to forget how much prep time you spend outside of just building a computer and installing the software.

I don't think most care that much about their media outside of just wanting to watch their show. I also don't think most watch most of their shows more than once. I am not saying you are wrong so don't take it that way. I am just saying that different strokes for different folks. But I don't think any hobbyist type is visiting a deal thread on the ATV looking to convinced into building a htpc.

A bit strange to be in an ATV deal thread when you have never used one. First of course it is just a deal thread. Presumably people are here to say thanks for the deal because they were looking to purchase an ATV. And second if advice is needed it would be difficult to give it if you have never owned one.

Also iTunes is really 2 different entities. There is iTunes the store and there is iTunes the media organizer.

You don't have to only use iTunes the store to use your ATV for movies, music and tv. You can also buy discs from any source, rip them, and encode the rips and store them in iTunes the media organizer program.

Music is unprotected nowadays and so one can freely purchase music from a source such as Amazon and it goes directly into iTunes the media organizer program for use on any iTunes device.

I carry an Apple TV 2 with me when I travel to airplay video from laptop to hotel TV.

Bought an apple tv for the exact same purpose, more for amazon instant video and some other video apps. Found a lot of apps block airplay to external monitors. Not sure if Netflix is one of these apps, but if so, you can get around this by jail breaking your ipad (assuming you haven't upgraded to ios6).

how is this a media player when it doesnt support mkv.........apple products are a joke..

Really? so you could play mkv without jailbreaking your apply tv? It seems like the only way apple products work is when you have to jailbreak it. JB ATV2 support up to 720P = so 2004.......
