Southwest signature card free 3,000 when cancelling

if you cancel, will the existing 50k bonus points be cancelled as well?

Seems like this is hit or miss, I tried once with citi premier and they started to actually cancel my card haha

Was a regular CS rep able to give you the 3k or did you have to get transferred to retention/specialist?

Chase told me that since I have only had the card for 6 months, if I elect to cancel, they will remove my initial 50k bonus points.

Yes there is that risk. There is NO point to ever cancel a Chase card. At 10-11 months call for retention bonus. Also, you can downgrade when the fee comes to a NO-Fee card. Only close a card if you need to to open a new account later!

Ok I just called them and talked to a CS rep. I inquired about the fee, points bonus, etc and then asked if they could wave the fee. He told me no and didn't offer me the promotion so I asked to cancel and he transferred me to a senior account specialist.

This new guy asked me why I wanted to cancel and I said i thought there were more bonus pts on the anniversary, he mentioned the premier card and then offered me the 3k extra(since I spend a lot? haha) for a total of 6k, so now I'll me making $30 this year on the card!

Yeah but if he really signed you onto the premier card, you'll have a $99 fee next year. You'll also get 6K points as your normal annual bonus, though.

Oh sorry I misspoke. I didn't mean to say he switched me, he just mentioned that. I'm getting the 6k bonus on my 1 year anniversary but still have the plus card( I do also have the premier though)

If they did that, you'd hear about it big time here from past threads.

Everyone needs to learn "how" to ask for points. There are ways, if you use a card, to get a TON of points each year. ;-)

Does this work for cards without annual fees? Will they give me bonus points as well? Say Discover or Chase Freedom?

Funny. I actually called to cancel this morning and was offered 3 k points to keep the card so I did. Easy $25 in gift cards and I still have plenty of time to cancel before the annual fee.
