I, along with another SDer, bit on the deal that JohnnyHot posted. My initial ship date was in late March, 2013. The other SDer is still in the 2-6 month waiting period. However, I received notification that Amazon shipped mine a few days ago. It gets delivered by UPS tomorrow, so I can tell you whether or not they ship the $1,000 dollar Tyrant V Bloodstorm model, or if they mistakenly ship the $300 Tyrant X Bloodsplatter model. Honestly, I clicked "buy" out of curiosity. I figured the item would never ship. The bad reviews stem from Music123, who mistakenly listed the Bloodstorm model while they shipped the Bloodsplatter model. Music123 also made the same mistake on Buy.com. However, Amazon is now the seller for this guitar, not Music123. If you read the comments in the reviews, it looks like one person actually received the correct (expensive) model after ordering from Amazon directly. There are three different types of Michael Amott signature guitars. At $300, you get the Tyrant X models. At $900-1000, you get the Tyrant V model (the model being sold here). At the $1400-1800 range, you get the straight-black or straight-red model with the 3D pick guard. There main differences between the $300 and $1000 model are that the $1000 model has a set-neck, the Tyrant humbucker in the bridge position, the inlays, Grover non-locking tuners, the wood, and the graphic/paint that Michael Amott actually uses on stage. In street-prices, the difference amounts to about $300. So the actual price of the guitar should be about $300 more than the Tyrant-X, making it a $600 value guitar. So even if it's being sold at an over-priced $1,000, getting it at $300 from Amazon would still be a deal in the end. Although it's rare to find the more expensive versions of the Micahel Amott guitars in stores, Dean is still producing them. It seems that the more expensive guitars are produced on demand, so it's not in regular production. A used Tyrant V sells on E-Bay for about $650, a new one can sell between $750-1000. You can find a used one at a local Guitar Center for about $600, so it's still holding its value. It's still sold in local shops in the U.S. and overseas (most notably in Japan) for between $900-1,300. I wouldn't mind the graphic if it went all the way around the guitar, but the graphic is only for the front, with the back being black, so I think it makes it look terrible. But, I've always wanted a Flying V-type guitar, and I've always wanted to try a Dean, so I guess I'll keep it if it's the actual Bloodstorm model. I have actually received dozens of price mistake deals in the past, so I decided to bite on this one. My only dilemma was how many I should get, one or two.
I forget, does Amazon charge my credit card when the item ships, or when I initially place the purchase? I will keep everyone posted. If you have done "dozens" just like myself...you'd know that, most of the time, you receive the wrong item. While this is from Amzon themselves....it does seem like the same listing mistake...so guess it comes down to how many you would like to return on their dime. |
