Magic The Gathering Deckbuilder's Toolkit $16.96

Good deal, but keep in mind if you already have some cards, it may not be worth your time. As one review states:

Booster packs cost less than $3 at local card stores. This doesn't seem like much of a deal to me. You're probably better off buying boosters and buying singles based on what you want. If you want a grab bag of common cards, just get an "instant collection" off of ebay.

I don't deny that this is geared towards new players. This also benefits players with "some" cards as this can help fill out decks and you still get 4 boosters. There are still useful cards in the fixed set such as vampire nighthawk, Serra Angel and great instants.

I see people buying Fat Packs and don't understand why.

FAT PACK 39.99 for 9 packs, die, 80 land = $4.443 per booster pack
DECKBUILDER 16.96 for 4 packs, 100 land, 125 other cards = $4.24 per booster pack, more land for less, and 125 cards that are useful in filling out decks.
Booster Box 93.95 for 36 packs = 2.6097 per booster pack

I suggest deckbuilder for all new players, plus intermediate players looking for a few boosters, land and 125 useful/playable/good cards to finish decks. Booster Boxes are the clear favorite for established players who just want a bunch of random cards. Fat Packs don't seem to make much sense to me. You could just buy two of these deckbuilders and an extra booster for less(16.96 x 2) plus 4.50 = 38.42 and get the same amount of booster packs, 40 more lands, and 250 other useful cards.

Ebay sets are hit or miss according to reviews. With this you know what you get. People should try to find the official list of the semi-random and fixed cards and see how much they like the cards. I know they have lists for the Toolkits for previous years, not sure about the new one.

Love to find a store that sold Booster Packs for 3 dollars or less!!!! None around me!! That would still be 3*4=$12 for the Boosters, $2.50 for 100 lands, and 2.46 for 125 other cards. Still sounds good. To each their own.

2013 packs are actually $2.50 next to me. If I couldn't get packs for under $3, I'd just buy everything off the net. For example, CoolStuffInc.com sells packs for $2.50 and will ship them first class for 99 cents first class mail (the whole package). Common sets can easily be found for $5 around the net, as well.

That is an amazing price. I think boosters around me are 3.50. I would gladly take 8 boosters for 20 over this deal anyday, but I didn't have that luxury. I will look into that site for packs.

Doesn't even sound possible that you are getting 2.50 booster packs. Booster boxes come to around that per back, so why would anyone buy booster boxes?

it's crazy how long this game has been around. i played for like 1-2 years, years ago. everytime i hear of it again it makes me stop and think just how long it's been since i've played.

I live close to the store front of that place I linked you to. They're the real deal and good people. All the card stores here in Florida sell well under retail. The most you ever see new boosters for are $2.99, unless you go to a book store or Target ($3.99)....or Toys R Us ($4.99).

Typical pre-order price for booster boxes are $85.99.-$89.99.

I come close to tears when I remember my old collection from the mid 90s and look at how much some of that stuff goes for now. Some of the cards that we used to throw around just because we had so many of them are worth a fortune now.

yeah, i sold off my old collection in like '03-'04. i live in the us and shipped off a large shoe box worth of cards to some guy, i wan't to say in denmark or the netherlands. i remember thinking it was curious that he'd be willing to pay so much on shipping, but i guess he got the better deal in the end.

Where are you getting packs? MSRP is 3.99 a pack. If your local card store isn't charging this they're leaving money on the table.

I already posted the link. CheapStuffInc.com sells packs much cheaper than MSRP. You can find similar prices at most online card stores. Remember, MSRP is suggested retail. When you buy a pack of cards at retail price, there's at least $1.50 of built in profit there. Most of these stores that sell at volume make narrow profits off packs of cards...all the profit in the industry is in buying/selling singles and sets. Boost packs are basically loss leaders (sell at cost or a little above in this case) to get you in the store. In my area, there are so many stores selling cards that you have to be competitive. No one's caught dead charging more than $3 on anything but vintage packs.
