For normal desktop office work, no, it absolutely isn't. On tablets, and for home entertainment, yes it is. It's all in how you use it.

Can I have a refund if they pull the windows 8 like they did with windows 7?

Just joined the ACM, not sure to pay $32 for IEEE except someone shows the way to get half year. I'm on the page of input credit card info but not sure I pull the trigger or nor.

Can anyone confirm that ACM has Windows 8 too since it seems like OP found it through IEEE. I remember ACM not offering Windows 7 so want to be sure before I spend the $19.

ACM Membership DOES NOT include Windows 7.

Recently, a large number of individuals looking to get Windows 7 through an ACM Student Member benefit joined ACM only to find out that ACM membership is not for them.

I got two licenses, one from IEEE and one from ACM. ACM still has Windows 8 as of right now.

No, it's not, and not just based on my own personal experiences. Most professional reviewers concur. I have Win 8 and Win 7, and used Win 8 extensively. It adds keystrokes to go in and out of the UI.

The only one you want is Professional 32/64 bit. Debug/checked version is some sort of developer toolkit, and Symbols is just some add-on package.

Where are all these professional reviews? What keystrokes does it add? I'm seriously having trouble making ANYTHING take more keystrokes than it did in Windows 7. In fact, do these things on Windows 7 with TWO keystrokes, which you can do in 8.

• Open control panel
• open command prompt
• open command prompt as admin
• device manager
• disk management
• Basically anything in Win+X Menu

Also, please list the things which take more keystrokes on Windows 8.

I've been using it on my desktop (30" 2560x1600 + 27" 2560x1440 screens) and on my convertible tablet PC. It is absolutely awesome on both. The only difference on my desktop is that the start menu is full screen instead of a little menu in the corner. I prefer it to be full screen since it's open for less than 2 seconds I can more easily find and click what I want. It shows like 20x the amount of items as the start menu. I stay in the desktop UI otherwise and don't use Metro apps. Don't even bother using the metro apps on a desktop. The desktop UI has gotten a ton of improvements.

Win8 has actually upped productivity for me by forcing me to utilize keystrokes lol.

These are all inherent shortcut keys that have been around since Win95. however since there was always icons and start buttons and what not, I never used those shortcuts. Now that Win8 streamlined and removed these, I am finding that I can manuever the OS alot quicker using strictly these shortcuts.

Like any new OS takes getting used to, but now that I am acustomed to it, seems like 2nd nature.
