It was their "Cyber Monday" sale, but because their website was completely crashed for most of it, it lasted at least through Tuesday if I remember correctly.
I called and talked to an agent because I couldn't order a TV that was an insane price (it was $400 on their website and $900 on Best Buy's website) because their website crapped out. She told me to just go ahead and order it from Best Buy and that she would put in a request to add 50K points ($500) to my rewards account to compensate the difference. She said that a supervisor would review it and get back to me to confirm it within 5 days. So I ordered the TV from BB.com, and figured I'd wait to get the points confirmed before picking it up. They never called and so I never picked the TV up and the order was cancelled. About 3 weeks later, a supervisor called me. I explained the situation, and she said okay, that's fine...and credited me 50K points and I didn't even have to purchase the TV...meanwhile I had used my actual points to purchase 2 HD video cameras for just under $200 worth of points each and sold them for $320 each on eBay, cashing out my points at about 150% of their actual value...plus when it was all done I had more points than I started with. I have about $100K points now and certainly will be saving them hoping for something similar rather than jumping on giftcards that are barely cheaper than you could buy them for on plastic jungle anyway.
Most of these GCs for 10% or 20% off are the same old ones we've seen before, so I probably won't spend any of my points now because I expect to see these GCs again in the future.
I'm somewhere near 70K points which should be enough for CM. Last year I would've bought a TV but of course the good ones were already OOS, so I think I spent less than 30K points. This year I don't need a TV nor have room to put one. We can all hope that the CM deal at Chase UR is as good as last time and that their web site won't bog down and become almost unusable and that everything good won't be OOS quickly, but somehow I doubt it. Probably everyone with Chase Rewards and a computer in the US is going to be online and ready to jump at this, so I don't want to get my hopes up. That's why I hate BF and CM... there are so many deals but way too much competition. I just end up losing sleep, being nervous, and rarely score any of the mega deals. It makes me glad it's only once a year.
