If you use this set to watch TV, you are fine because almost all channels overscan. If you watch blu-rays then you are fine as well and the sharpness will be as expected, but you will lose the edges of the frame. However, most people don't know that they should turn off overscan on their blu-ray inputs anyway so you are simply stuck in this crowd with cropped edges, but don't have the option to turn it off. |

Really tempted on buying this. Been looking for a 55" Samsung but at this price it is well under 1/2 the price or more. Even though I stick with well brand-name products this sounds like a good deal. I don't know why people are hating on the manufacturer.
Also, to those who say spending less on stuff costs more in the end... I haven't had one thing I bought that didn't at least live up to it's value. The only reason that statement would be true is if you DON'T know how to take care of your things. Ignorance and negligence is what makes stuff break. Common sense and thinking goes a long way just to find the item you are looking for. I would suggest logging off SD and spending more time acutally looking around for the items you want. You'll save a lot more time and money that way. Might as well call my $10 bookcases/desks from Staples "cheap" even though they look 10x better than anything from Walmart or similar store that costs five times the price.

I've bought this one @ Fry's Electronics for $699 plus tax $54.55 & $10 for screen over 25 inch on Sunday (one day only special). Out the door was $763.94 but I have to pick it up myself. I had it for a week. I have placed the TCL next to my 240hz Toshiba LCD 55 "55ZV650U" inch TV that I have bought in 2009. This TCL did not have the smooth action during sport event as a 240hz TV supposed to have. In addition, TCL had bad reviews on amazon.com & addition it is a MADE IN CHINA brand. I bought a Panasonic L55ET5 smart LED tv 55 inch 3D, 120 hz for $888 out the door cost $963 ( picked it up myself). A lot crisper than the TCL. I hope this helps.

I have bought this one @ Fry's Electronics for $ 763, I have picked it up myself to save on the $75 shipping charge. The TCL tv's picture motion during rapid action programs/movies are not that crisp as my old Toshiba 240 hz LCD tv. TCL MADE IN CHINA brand and bad reviews
on amazon.com did not boost its rating for me. I took it back after 10 days of placing it next to my Toshiba 55 inch 240 hz LCD "55zv65OU" that I have bought in 2009 for pictures quality comparison. I bought the Panasonic 55 inch TC-L55ET5", 120 hz 3-D with 4 pairs of 3-D glasses, smart LED tv for $ 963 instead. For the extra $200 usd, I have a crisper picture that the TCL tv lack. I hope this helps.

I have a 40 inch TLC. It was only $300 at the time. I liked the TV and thought the picture was great... until I upgraded a year later to an LG LED tv.
Now I can't stand to look at the 40 inch. It seems to reproduce white color very poorly, even after as much tweaking as I could do. |

Mine came in yesterday. Looks great, better than the Vizio's and Westinghouse, but not as good as the Samsungs and LG's going for over $1200.
I had a 40" Samsung LCD for the last 5 years and I'd say that the picture quality is equal. However, I need to get this set calibrated, unless somebody's already done this and has some settings I could try out??? For the price, your getting more than your monies worth. Only time will tell on the build quality though. Aesthetically the set looks really good, but they don't give you the screws for attaching to your wall mount. The screws I had from my Samsung were too short so I had to get some longer screws...really not an issue. |

So far, I really like the TV. Aesthetically it looks nice, has a thin border, is fairly light and produces a lot less heat than my older 40" Toshiba LCD. After fiddling a bit with color settings, I seem to have settled on a "brighter" overall picture which seems to give good results at the expense of deep blacks. I cannot find a way to get deep blacks without sacrificing contrast at the low spectrum, and I am not convinced it is possible with this set. Have you learned anything since your post about calibration settings (TV and software) to get better results? |
