Have you thought about a forum for scams/security breaches?
Has there been any thought on providing a forum that may inform sd users about possible scam sites, phishing attempts or security breaches? Threads that get posted in Hot Deals about potential security breaches such as the one about Walmart.com getting hacked get moved to Deal Talk where they have a low exposure rate. Had I not been bored (and broke), I might not have noticed it. I know the person in the Lounge that posted a thread about having their Walmart.com account hacked hadn't seen it. Perhaps if they had, they might have taken steps to remove the stored credit card info on the site and/or changed their password.Just a thought. |

if it's well known merchants or a from a popular thread here, then we usually let it stay in hd for some time, eventually moving it to deal talk with a redirect.
we, or at least i, review threads re: scam, security breach or anything of importance to and affecting slickdealers before moving to deal talk. the 'walmart.com getting hacked' thread was an isolated incidence based on the replies. i moved it to deal talk (not the lounge, they should be grateful, lolol) however, the groupon settlement thread, started back in april, is still in hot deals. probably could be moved now but it's fine. |

i was gonna link beege the thread and when i went to do that, i read the last page of posts. after reading thru the posts, there's good reason for me to move it back. i moved the walmart got hacked thread back to hot deals so that the community can check their accounts and discuss.

meritline needs to be banned...WAY too many "coincidences" of CC fraud shortly after purchases from that place. I know people's reply is "just use Paypal"...but that's not the point.
not really sure why SD allows anything from eBay either. It should be nothing or everything. I don't understand why certain companies/sellers get a pass, but others don't. my $0.02 I believe I've found the solution to obesity in America. Hemispherectomy....no one uses it anyway.

Regarding eBay: if we allow tigerdirect on slickdeals, shouldn't we allow tigerdirect's ebay store? That's a pretty good example of allowing ebay. We just don't want to post anyone who's got zero or no known reputation. The personal views and opinions expressed in this post are exactly that and do not necessarily represent an official opinion or stance of Slickdeals and this is a disclaimer in case I say something stupid. In fact, anything I say should not be taken seriously.

http://slickdeals.net/f/3440118-P...-Meritline http://slickdeals.net/f/2202662-M...ard-Beware http://slickdeals.net/f/1918882-M...card-fraud not to mention the hundreds (or thousands?) of other suspisious people around the internet with similar experiences... http://www.google.com/#hl=en&scli...20&bih=955 It can't just be a coincidence. Regarding Ebay, I see your point. But at the same time, I'm not sure that it's fair to prohibit the sellers that don't have millions of items in inventory, and cater to the large corporations that do. It's a double-standard. I can link a deal to nearly any mom and pop shop that opens their own website and it won't get pulled, but if that mom pop shop happens to sell on eBay, it's getting pulled. And if it's an issue about seller reputation (and protecting SD members), then that alone should prohibit further sales of Meritline on here based on their reviews/ratings from various websites around the internet. Personally, I can't stand eBay and would love to see them pulled....but either way, as long as it's a fair playing filed across the board. |
