these make amazing bed/couch mousepads and a good writing board for those of you that don't like clipboards due to their thinness. oh, and for occasionally cutting tomatoes and apples on...

Any idea if the surface is polished with some external varnish or is the finish plain natural bamboo?

As much as I like the feel of wood, porous material such as wood is not great for cutting boards.

These will start to split several years down the line, and yeah target/ross/TJ maxx type places have them for a little less or the same. Whole foods has them for 2x as much, haha.
Slickdeals is a false hope generator.

Anyone know if this set has same issues as this?:
Classic Two Tone Cutting Board S/M/L Combo Pack [corebamboo.com] Used M board consistently everyday (cut, rinse, air dry on dish rack) and it started molding a little at ends and splitting cracks formed where bamboo strips joined in less than 1 month. Definitely too thin IMO. |

Plastic is best for meats. Non porous, and not tough on cutting edges. I find bamboo hard on cutting edges, so you will be sharpening more often if you do a lot of cutting on bamboo. But it is cheap, and less porosity than wood. |

I got these as a wedding gift last year and I must say they are pretty crappy for everyday use. They splinter pretty easily, especially when trying to hand wash them.
An earlier poster said they warped after putting them in the dishwasher and I'm sure they would, but it's a general rule that you never put wooden utensils or cutting boards in the dishwasher for this exact reason. Wood softens in water. |

I agree with the others - these are crappy cutting boards. One slice and there is a huge. deep
cut in the board..so now it's not even a flat surface. Probably would have to sand it down but I am just throwing away....think I'm done with the bamboo cutting boards |
