Exactly. This is a thread about the "hot" item of the year, which will go for retail and way above heading into christmas as parents get the "must-have" toy for under the tree. Barring a change, the new U will not be available for "sale" any time in 2012 as there is no need to discount it.
The flippers are determined to make it a hot item one way or the other. Hopefully Nintendo can saturate the market enough to where the flippers end up learning their lesson this time. I can guarantee you that half of the preorders out there were placed by people thinking they could capitalize on some parent that had no idea the dumb thing was even coming out until the "sold out everywhere" news hit the paper. The only people who even knew about it before the preorders "sold out" were gamers who intently follow game news and flippers.
I'm a gamer and flipper. I want to buy 2-3, so I can sell one (or two) and have a free Wii U (and maybe enough for games).
We just spoke with Nintendo distribution on availability. Looks like the majority of the products will go to brick and mortar retailers such as Walmart, Target or Toys R Us. These retailers usually control the flow of these products during the holiday season and only sell a limited number of them on each day. That way they ensure customer traffic into the stores every day. We highly recommend that if this is a gift, order from Walmart or Target, or make arrangements to pick it up in the store.
Hi -- any more updates since the WiiU has been released?
Or has anyone else who has ordered one from CostCaptain gotten an update -- shipping or anything?
I got my order in pretty early, before the "limited availability" message.
No news on shipping. Not really. The good news is they are an authorized dealer, so you would think they are getting a shipment sooner rather than later. I kind of think they oversold it a little bit and they are going to ship them in batches as Nintendo sends it to them. I called CostCaptain yesterday morning. As of then, no Wii U's have been delivered to them yet. Not sure about everyone else, but my credit card was charged for the full amount a few weeks ago, so I am hoping that locks me into the first wii u's they mail out if they are dividing up shipments. Just speculation on dividing up, they never said that, but based on their walmart comments, I think they may have oversold slightly and some people might have to wait for the next Nintendo shipment of Wii U's. I ordered in the first 20 minutes so you would think I would be in the top of the list. The rep I talked to said they hadn't heard anything new from Nintendo, but they are expecting something from Nintendo this week or early next week. She didn't specify something, but I bet that means that the Wii U's are on their way to CostCaptain.
Just got this message: "The Wii-U was released Sunday, but we have not received the item in our warehouse yet. Nintendo is distributing the item to its distributors currently but we do not have an ETA for when we will be receiving the console."
... hmm, kinda sketchy that they're again showing stock via Google Shopping, but haven't begun to fill their pre-orders yet. I suppose anyone can cancel, but my card was charged the $450 immediately. Blah. I suppose I'll try to buy it at a store this weekend and cancel my "pre-order" if successful. What a let down.
