Yes, but the BIG difference is SquareTrade has a "capped total value claim limit". This means that after your first claim, the claim assessment value gets deducted from that set limit.

So although the warranty as advertised for iPhone warranty says, two years, 4 claims and a $599 Claim limit, it in fact means while you get "4 claims", the whole claim limit of $599 may all be absorbed in your first claim on damage. So once you have a "total loss", you've used up all $599 for the whole plan and that's the end of the SquareTrade plan even though you have "remaining claims".

So, if you only crack the glass and back plate and it costs $219 to replace it, you have 3 claims remaining and a $380 "balance". Then if you later have a "total loss like water damage", even though you have 3 claims remaining you will not get a $599 replacement phone. They will take your damaged phone and you will only get a check for the remaining "balance".

AppleCare has less claims, but they can both be for anything including "total losses". Hope that makes sense.

Nevermind, going with AppleCare+ instead. works better for my situation...

As it happens I just bought a new DOCSIS3 cable modem, one of those things that actually does have a reasonable chance of dying. So I figured a warranty was worth pricing out.

I got lucky this morning, for some reason the 30% off discount was still active, instead of the 20%. So, it was $11.36 incl. tax. for $99.99 worth of coverage.

Soo, if it dies within the next 3 years, for cheaper things like this they just put the money in your PayPal account and you go get another.
