If you need a grill tank, as I do, and don't want to do the "exchange" thing, Sears has the following for $23.91, FREE shipping with SYWM:

If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

For those not in the know, costco B&M has an empty "Pre-Purged" cylinder with overfill protection and Full/Empty Guage for 27.99. Not sure what brand it is.

For refills, check U-Haul's website for your local shop and check prices right on the website (they vary greatly, even locally between stores): http://www.uhaul.com/Propane/

Anyone with good places to get LP filled in Sacramento, CA? The cheapest I've found was a U-Haul for $3.19 gallon... which seems high compared to one of the posts for <$2 gallon. Agree the exchange is quick and easy, but Blue Rhino and Amerigas only gives you 15lbs in my city for ~$20+tax. Thanks in advance.

No, that would be incorrect - those gases are different and NOT LPG.
.
Duh...that was my point. You were the one using collective analogies of three or more items to apply to LPG...when we both know it's only TWO CONSTITUENTS.

Actually most "petroleum distillates" ARE liquid - paint thinner, lacquer thinner, etc.

Um, quit agreeing with me when you try to argue...it's boring. I said some are not liquid (they are gas) and some are not liquefied..because they're already a liquid. Point being...they don't have an "L" in the acronym you seem to be infatuated with.

But since you've corrected me to confirm you're actually old and cranky, we'll let you think you're right and have the last word. Smilie

If you are buying a new tank, don't exchange it. The tanks you exchange for are crappy, rusted, or dated. The tanks have a 10(?) or 12(?) life span. There's a date on the tank itself. Older tanks have issues with filling which you can get from tank exchanges. Yes they can be more convient, but it's still cheaper(for the most part) to buy a new tank and fill it up at a LP(LPG?) station.

Plus your new tank is so shiny... Smilie

I've found (both in Los Angeles and Houston) that refills are in the 15-17# range. But the kicker is, they all have a 20# minimum purchase, so you have to pay for a full refill anyway.

Its just like the grocery store, they put less cereal in the same size box and you get to keep paying the same price! And most people are none-the-wiser.
I always go to a place that uses a scale. AB Gas Company on Hempstead Rd in Houston, when I lived there, lets you watch them refill your tank with 20 lbs.

Sears has the Worthington 20lb propane cylinder/tank on sale for $25.17 before tax. These are usally $39.99. These can be filled at most propane places for less than $10 (propane runs $1.99 a gallon in my area right now). Free in store pickup (most stores carry these)

Where do you live? I've never found a 20 lb. refill for less than $12 and that's going back at least 10 years.

Propane Exchange Ripoff report

Thanks for posting! So many people do not realize they are only getting 15lbs when doing these tank swaps at the supernarket. I get MY tank, which I know is good and has good seals, refilled with 20lbs of propane for LESS than it costs for the tank exchange.

Our local Costco is filling 20lb tanks right now for 9.99. That`s the cheapest I have seen it for awhile so if filling a tank it may be worth a check with them if you have one locally.

Where I live, the cheapest refill I've found is $16. Most places charge $20-$22. And they all charge as a flat fee, regardless of the amount put it (not by-the-pound).
