If you need a grill tank, as I do, and don't want to do the "exchange" thing, Sears has the following for $23.91, FREE shipping with SYWM:

so do i head to costco and ask for the empty propane tanks? I dont know how you guys do it.. if theres no sku costco cant do shit in terms of assistance.. this applies or has applied to when i wanted to buy an air conditioner, alera steel shelfs... a few more others i forget. But if you have a receipt or # i can ask them.. hopefully they dont pull some stupid stunt oh you gotta buy that online because we dont sell empty propane tanks!.
They usually just have a big stack of them in the outdoor section of our local store. You may be out of luck for this year, though, since it's a seasonal item.

guys i have a video on how to convert propane to natural gas. its the best thing i ever did and it was so easy. man i never run out and never have to go do the swap thing. its unreal
My grill came with a kit to convert it. Then all I needed was a plumber to come out and run a line. Easy peasy.

It might be considered seasonal, as the grilling season is almost over, it's possible that they've gotten rid of their propane tanks, haven't been in one lately so I don't know. They don't have it online. If it's in the store, it would only be empty tanks, you can't store full ones indoors so you can only sell empty ones in the store. That's why the tank exchange places are always outside.

Or you can just pick one up on Craigslist, in my local one, I see a full one that's free, and they range from $10-$30 for a full tank. And you can always do a tank exchange if you end up with an old one.

Call me paranoid, but the idea of a natural gas line running right outside my home would worry me. I'm sure it could be made safe, but still...

You're paranoid. Smilie It's an extremely safe fuel. There are millions of structures around the world with gas lines on their exteriors.

As for the fill, even when I take it to BJs, I think I only get about 18 pounds as I think they're supposed to leave 10% free as a safety factor as propane will expand/contract 1% for every 6 degrees F and they use 60 as a baseline. So I guess if it hits 120 degrees, that a 10% expansion in volume.
P1*V1/T1=P2*V2/T2 (from chemistry class). Since the volume can't change, the pressure must go up. These tanks can take the pressure from a change in normal ambient temperatures at 20 lbs without a problem.

Also, your temperature must be absolute (Kelvin). i.e. a change from 60 degrees to 120 degrees does not equate to double pressure. Convert to celsius and add 273 to get Kelvin. Wink

While this is a new tank, you can generally buy a used tank full of propane for $42.00. And since most of the time you trade the tank in when you get an exchange tank, the tank you originally buy is long gone after the first fill.

I only go through two tanks a year, and so I haven't done any swaps in several months, but that's about what it was. Say $15-$20 to be safe. It's one of those AmeriGas 24-hour locations.
I just swapped my tank this afternoon at Menards for $17.99/

Just came back from Parkway Center Mall in Pittsburgh, PA, specifically Green Tree... Went to the Kmart, which is no longer listed in the list of stores on Kmart's website, as this one will be closing January 6th, 2013 (this is the last of the 2 big stores in the dead mall, besides giant eagle, google it)
Something interesting, besides the fact that a lot of things were on clearance.... the grills that are in this thread, including the Kenmore grill were there, but they were regular price, I did check and have them scan them.. I guess they aren't participating in the Kmart markdowns anymore since they're separate and scheduled to close.. I'm going tomorrow or Saturday to pick up my order of the Charbroil 3 burner gas grill at another Kmart, seems several stores in PA have the grills in stock... although, not the Kenmore, if you were lucky to get one of those, good deal, great reviews..

I'm sure that if you buy the Kenmore or other grills at this Kmart in PA for regular price, you can probably go the next day to another Kmart and get a price adjustment, since you have 7 days as per the back of the receipt to adjust it, and this store is NOT yet doing the all sales final, which would prohibit doing that. They do not do price adjustments on clearance, so buying them regular price and getting them reduced to the clearance price really shouldn't be a problem.

Went to Kmart, not Sears, they had one of the Worthington tanks completely hidden... Bought it for $12.99, someone earlier in this thread said they found 1 in Kmart for $19.99, that was what the sticky on this one said, must have gone even lower.. Triangle handle, prepurged, but may need to purge again since it says date 12/2011 on the tank, and to my understanding, if not filled within 6 months, needs repurging... , says 16.6 lbs on the top of it. Sounds good to me, I got it while I was picking up my Charbroil 3 burner grill.. thankfully the grill was in the box, don't think an assembled one would have fit in my car. I won't be filling this tank with propane until summer, but glad I got it for a decent price Wink

did anyone else get a full tank? i wasn't completely sure it was the empty tank, and the employee assured me it was a full tank...also, sears has screwed me over by not refunding me my money automatically after I forgot to pick up items before the orders got cancelled (still need to call about 2 cancelled orders to get my refund), so I guess they are paying me for my trouble...
