My experience with a national fix it appliance place So I got a broken dishwasher. It's in it's second year of use, and the credit card company was more than accommodating to pick up the repair cost under their benefits. That was the easy part. Place a call for service, specify it needs a door latch even going so far as to give a part number and for the truck to have it on hand before coming out to simply "diagnose" the problem. Lad says sure, we can do that. Seems simple enough to do it all in one call. So the guy phones and says he'd be here in 10 minutes. Great. I ask if he has the part and he has nothing. Stated there's a diagnostic fee of $75 for coming into the house. They'd want $135 to come back and install it, and some $60 for the part. The $75 fee is applied to the installation call. They can order the part and because of the holiday weekend could install in in 8 days. Damn. It's ok to be without a dishwasher a few days, but really want it this long weekend. So I say screw that, grab a torx in the basement and easily take it apart. In about 4 minutes I'm looking at the part and clipping a spring back in place. A few minutes playing with the part and patting myself on the back, 3 minutes more and it's together again and working. I still want to order the part because it looks like it'll fail again - Amazon sells it OEM for $22 with quick delivery. Frustrating to deal with such expensive incompetence. Good to vent here and hope it can help someone out facing a similar situation. |

I went through the same experience with a tranny hooker once. Never.Again.....
The constitutions of most of our States and of the United States assert, that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves, in all cases to which they think themselves competent, or they may act by representatives, freely and equally chosen; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed; that they are entitled to freedom of person, freedom of religion, freedom of property, and freedom of the press. -Thomas Jefferson, June 5, 1824

I hope you'll name both the good credit card brand and the bad national repair company because people will benefit from knowing them.
I have no idea what repair company quoted you $135/hour for labor and $75 for the trip charge, but years ago when our brand new Sears washer had a defect, the warranty claim listed labor at $135/hour and the trip charge at $75. We exchanged the washer rather than risk a bad repair. |
